Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Gastroenterology Dietitian to join the Dietetics department at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Our aim is to deliver efficient, high quality, multi-disciplinary care to children with complex gastroenterology diagnoses. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a team of 5 other gastroenterology dietitians. We are looking for an enthusiastic dietitian with gastroenterology experience and knowledge of parenteral nutrition management.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and high-quality dietetic service for both inpatients and outpatients working to agreed standards, policies and procedures.

Using specialised knowledge to manage a caseload of patients with different underlying conditions Assessment of the patient's needs for all children in the caseload, considering their diet history, growth and biochemical parameters and any relevant drug treatments. Making clinical decisions regarding the necessary nutritional support and dietary interventions Development and updating of diet sheets and other educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust Close liaison with the diet service technicians and tasks to support the operation and functions of the Special Feeds Unit and Diet Kitchen Teaching and supporting dietitians, diet service technicians, dietetic assistants, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of nutrition and dietary management through informal tutorials and formal study days Training the multidisciplinary team in anthropometry

Freedom to act interpreting the Health Professions Council code of conduct and working to all agreed standards, policies and procedures within the department and the Trust.

Maintenance and improvement of knowledge about current best practice and developments in paediatric nutrition and dietetics, employing evidence-based practice wherever possible
