Job summary

We are seeking an energetic, innovative, and skilled Psychologist with a passion for working with Young Adults working in Camden & Islington Foundation NHS Trust's Young People Service as a clinician within the Transitions and Personality Disorder provision (Camden).

The Trust's new Young People & Transitions Service works with young adults (18-25), providing Consultation, Liaison, Assessment and Treatment around Young Adults' mental health.

The Personality Disorder Service is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a specialist Community Team, Therapies Team and Liaison Team. The service provides secondary care interventions to people who have difficulties characterised under the umbrella of a 'personality disorder' diagnosis. As a specialist service, the team also support the work of ICNs and the Crisis Care pathway within the Trust, with the aim of supporting staff to work more effectively with adults with complex mental health problems, including personality disorder. This is a dynamic service that is continuously improving and evolving within a changing NHS climate. This post provides an opportunity to work as part of a supportive, reflective and motivated team, committed to working compassionately with people with difficulties characterised under the umbrella of a severe 'personality disorder' diagnosis, specialising in young adults, aged between 18-25 years old.

Main duties of the job

JOB SUMMARY

The post-holder will be responsible for championing the needs of young people (18 to 25) in the Personality Disorder Service. The post-holder will influence the culture and practice of the service, providing assessment and treatment interventions for young people, facilitating the smooth transition of young people from CAMHS to adult services, and offering supervision, advice and consultation on young people's psychological care to the PD community and specialist treatment teams, to the new Core Teams, to referrers, to other non-psychological colleagues and other non-professional carers.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibility for Administration

To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner concerning the

assessment, formulation and treatment plans of young people.

To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, in the care provided to young people.

Clinical Responsibilities

To provide psychological assessments of young people using using interview, formal psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate.

To conduct joint assessments of young people with the Core Teams when there are queries around personality related difficulties.

To develop a PICT model (Psychologically Informed Consultation and Training) for primary care management of young people presenting with PD

To develop flexible practices within the PD service to facilitate the engagement of young people (18-25) with the service.

To work closely with local CAMHS services to facilitate smooth transition of young people from CAMHS to adult services.

To formulate and devise psychological treatment and management plans for young people with a range of problems of severity and complexity, including those with challenging behaviours, and to provide psychological treatment for such clients, using a range of psychological interventions appropriate to the service.

To provide psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals, to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of young people using the service.

Operational Responsibilities

To supervise designated staff and to be responsible for their appraisal and continuing professional development.

Policy / Service Development

To propose and develop policies for the PD service, and to monitor and audit service provision, ensuring practice meets best professional and evidence-based standards.

To lead on and contribute to the development of PD services in relation to young people.

Research And Development

To utilise evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.

To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research.

To participate in and contribute to clinical audit and service evaluation with colleagues within the service, to help evaluate and improve service provision.

To provide professional and clinical supervision of clinical and counselling psychologists, psychological therapists and trainee psychological and psychological therapy staff.

To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision, where appropriate, to other health and social care staff working within the client group.

General

To participate in regular clinical professional supervision and appraisal.

To maintain and develop the highest standards of practice, through active participation in continuing professional development and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in psychological practice in areas related to the post.

To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues of relevance to the service and client group.

To undertake such other duties and responsibilities, appropriate to the grade of the post, as may be agreed with the Head of PD and the Transitions Team Lead, and the Trusts Clinical Lead for Young Peoples Services and Transitions.

All staff are responsible for the continual compliance with CQC standards and outcomes.

The post-holder must be aware of, and work in line with, the Trusts Safeguarding Adults and Children procedures.

Personal Development

All staff are required to be appraised by their line managers at least once a year at a personal development review meeting where progress made over the last year is discussed and agreed. Focus on the following years departmental and personal objectives will be identified, discussed and agreed. Where necessary, help and support will be provided and development opportunities agreed in line with service provision and the knowledge and skills competency framework.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology and current registration with the Health Professions Council as a clinical psychologist or a counselling psychologist OR qualification in another mental health profession ( mental health nursing, occupational therapy) and qualification in cognitive behaviour therapy and working towards eligibility for registration with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy

Completion of further post-qualification specialist training in areas of practice relevant to the post

Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity Experience of working with young people with severe and enduring mental health problems
