Hello, my name is CatherineEaves and as General Manager for the Forensic In-patient wards I am looking foran individual who is ready to step up to the next level in their careers, whokeen to consider management and leadership in secure services.
The Ward Manager role withinthe Forensic Care Group is key to the operational management of theirrespective in-patient ward areas and the post holder will be responsible for,and work in partnership with the Multidisciplinary Team to provide high qualitycare for the service users along their pathway, supported by the management andclinical governance teams.
The post holder will beexpected to have, or be developing strong clinical and leadership skills and beproactive and creative in their responsibility to ensuring the delivery ofquality mental health services.
They will provide excellentclinical and managerial leadership, judgement on professional issues andsafety, ensure the Care Group receives practical support in improving thequality of the service delivered. The ideal applicants will have a wealth ofexperience in forensic mental health.
Main duties of the job

The Ward Managerrole encompasses the 24 hour responsibility for a ward, the health andwellbeing and support of the staff team and the delivery of a high qualityservice to the service users.
They must have apositive attitude, compassion and resilience to develop and influence the teamand the delivery, shaping up the requirements and supporting the managementteam to be able to make the right service offer for the Service Users in ourcare, and support our most valuable asset our staff teams to learn and growand feel confident in providing the safe, high-quality care we strive for.

Job responsibilities
The Post holder will be responsiblefor the effective day to day delivery of forensic mental health ward serviceswithin the designated team area.
The post holder will be responsiblefor the day to day management of resources and staff employed by both SWYPFTand integrated partners with agreed permissions framework to act in conjunctionwith other ward managers, professionals, disciplines and partners.
The post holder will be expected tohave strong clinical and leadership skills and be responsible for ensuring thedelivery of quality forensic mental health services.

Essential
Able to undertake and meet the key results areas for the post. Has advanced knowledge and proven ability in current mental health practice and national policy and guidance. Able to exercise leadership by personal example, demonstrating respect, openness and reliability, and able to foster these characteristics within the team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills that foster good working relationships and understanding in others. Able to implement and manage changes to internal systems to a reasonable conclusion. Able to analyse problems and identify and implement strategies that will resolve them. Able to write evidence based reports that support higher level decision making.
Desirable
Knowledge and skills in specialist areas, within forensics, such as dual diagnosis, peri-natal mental health, working with people experiencing psychosis, working with people with a diagnosis or personality disorder, working with people with co-existing mental and physical health needs that impacts on well-being.

Proven ability of post-basic clinical practice. Demonstrable leadership experience. Highly skilled at assessing and managing people with forensic mental health needs. Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in supporting/mentoring/supervising staff and students/trainees. Knowledge and evidence of using IT systems. Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in assessing and managing risk in a variety of settings. Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in assessing the needs and strengths of people and their carers. Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in delivering a range of therapeutic techniques. Proven ability to support team members with day-to-day caseload management including prioritisation of responsibilities in times of high clinical demand. Proven ability to promote and develop links with other professionals practitioners within long term conditions, primary care. Evidence of knowledge and application in practice of national guidance and standards NICE, CQC, CQUINS Using and implementing clinical governance systems. Experience of chairing meetings. Experience of providing and receiving supervision and appraisal.

Qualifications
Essential
RMN / RN Mental Health, or DipSW / CQSW / CSS or OT. Relevant graduate qualification or equivalent. Mentorship qualification or equivalent. Practice Placement Educator.
