Job summary

The Theatre Scrub Practitioner is a crucial member of thesurgical team, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care forpatients undergoing surgical procedures. The Theatre Practitioner willspecialise in a range of surgeries including Gynaecology, Urology, General,ENT, Plastic, Breast, and Orthopaedic surgeries, contributing to the successfuloutcomes of these procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Scrubbing for a diverse range of surgeries includingGynaecology, Urology, General, ENT, Plastic, Breast, and Orthopaedicprocedures. Ensuring the preparation and maintenance of the sterilefield during surgical procedures. Collaborating effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, andother healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and surgical success. Contributing to the assessment, planning, implementation,and evaluation of patient care.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Responsibilities:

Assist in a wide range of surgeries including Gynae, General, ENT, Plastic, Breast, andOrthopaedic procedures.

Prepare and maintain a sterile field, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques.

Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals toensure optimal patient outcomes.

Monitor and manage the patients condition during surgery, anticipating the needs of thesurgical team.

Ensure accurate documentation of perioperative care and any interventions performed.

2. Instrumentation and Equipment:

Possess comprehensive knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment.

Ensure the availability, functionality, and proper care of instruments required forprocedures.

3. Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other members of the surgical teamto optimise patient outcomes.

Maintain effective communication to enhance teamwork and contribute to a positive andcollaborative work environment.

4. Patient Advocacy:

Advocate for the well-being and safety of patients throughout the perioperative process,ensuring a patient-centred approach.

Provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families during theperioperative journey.

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised patient care.

5. Health and Safety:

Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures.

Ensure proper handling and disposal of surgical instruments and materials.

Participate in infection control practices to prevent cross-contamination.

6. Professional Development:

Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of surgical techniques, equipment, and best practices.

Contribute to the training and mentorship of junior staff and students.

7. Administrative Duties:

Maintain accurate patient records and ensure timely completion of all documentation.

Report and document any incidents, near misses, or concerns by hospital policies.

Participate in audit and quality improvement activities to enhance service delivery

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Qualified Theatre Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with current registration and relevant experience. Specialised experience in one or more of the following surgical areas is preferred: Gynaecology, Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Breast Surgery, and Orthopaedics.

Desirable

Sound knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and infection control practices. Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to the dynamic environment of surgical theatres. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
