The Mechanical Team Lead will be responsible for Aircraft Mechanical Production and Supervision within the Base and MRO environment including aircraft scheduled maintenance and component maintenance within the workshops. 

They are responsible for ensuring that all maintenance activities are undertaken in accordance with all the requirements of the regulatory approval and the issued Statement of Work/Condition of Supply to assure the output of airworthy aircraft and components.

They will report to the Base Maintenance Manager and manage the programme at a tactical level ensuring that issues adversely affecting lead times are anticipated and reported.

The role will involve supervision of a team of mechanical supervisors & technicians and the candidate will be able to evaluate and prioritise tasks to ensure production schedules are achieved.

Core Duties

  • Performance indicators – Ensure the effective management of Part 145 activities by setting delivery targets, monitoring progress and developing performance improvement programmes. Prioritises activities within/across teams to maximise efficiency. Represents the Maintenance Manager at management reviews, where necessary. Responsible for the assessment of escalated issues for any impact on Continuing Airworthiness and generating effective resolution, or sponsoring escalation to management, as appropriate.
  • Completion of activities – Ensure all Part 145 activities are appropriately documented and airworthiness records are maintained on relevant systems (IT / paper based). Ensure all Part 145 activities are performed by suitably qualified, experienced and authorised personnel. Ensure the integration of Part 145   activity within the business, including the engagement of key stakeholders at all stages of the process. Provide support and guidance to the team(s).
  • Procedure/standards – Manage the Part 145 team(s) compliance with the Part 145 Exposition, its associated procedures and standards, and any other Company procedures and standards, as applicable. Identify, propose and implement change as required, whilst ensuring compliance.
  • Safety Management System – Promote the application of Human Factors, Error Management, Risk Management and Safety Assurance within the Part 145 team(s), together with the proactive analysis, mitigation and management of Hazards.
  • Management System Assurance – Ensure Part 145 team(s) activities are compliant with the AM&S Governance and Assurance framework. Ensure Process Confirmations and independent assurance audits are supported by Part 145 personnel and integrated within/across teams. Manage the response to audit findings in a timely and appropriate manner and provide information into the relevant reviews. Generate and implement effective improvements within/across teams to overcome any non-compliance and monitor effectiveness
  • Statutory / Regulatory & Legislative requirements – Able to demonstrate a good understanding and application of the relevant Continuing Airworthiness Regulatory framework, and ensure any Regulatory-driven changes are implemented within the Part 145 team(s) activities. Ensure compliance with all other requirements, e.g. ITAR, EaPW, ISO, etc.
  • Contractual Requirements – Ensure compliance with all applicable contractual requirements, e.g. through support to contract reviews, and ensure any changes are implemented into the Part 145 activities, as appropriate.

Deliverables

  • Maintaining airworthiness by ensuring that all contracted maintenance has been properly carried out in accordance with regulatory requirements as defined within the Maintenance Organisation Exposition. Certifying the serviceability (or otherwise) of an aircraft component and the issue of appropriate certifying documentation.
  • Hold Component Certification Privileges as authorised by the On & Off a/c Maintenance Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring robust adherence to the Service Safety Hazard controls relating to the contributory causes to the output of incorrectly/incompletely maintained components.
  • Responsible for meeting agreed delivery targets in the short to medium term through the supervision of others. Progress reporting against delivery targets to senior management and internal/external customers.
  • Applying the relevant analytical skills for the tactical evaluation and resolution of operational problems, utilizing the required competent personnel and the appropriate approved data.
  • Ensuring scheduled adherence of the Workshop(s) and the requirement to report on any impact to the wider programme.
  • Managing the population of and adherence to the Component Maintenance Capability List for the Workshops iaw PROQ14992.
  • Identifying and managing with appropriate stakeholders all dependencies which enable the successful completion of component maintenance activities.
  • Manage shift and resource plans to ensure agreed delivery targets can be accomplished within the requirements of the regulatory framework by ensure staff are sufficiently competent and approved for the maintenance tasks allocated to them (including ensuring sufficient coverage of Support Staff with Supervisory
  • Responsibilities and Component Certifying Staff) within the shift plan.

Experience

  • Experienced and competent people manager and leader at this level.

  • Requires broad and in-depth product knowledge, expert competence within own technical/subject area and an understanding of the relationship with interfacing/ contributory areas, management of external dependencies appropriate to the role.

  • A thorough knowledge of maintenance activities conducted with the MRP Part 145 regulatory framework is required. An ability to make safety/compliance versus delivery output decisions as appropriate.

  • Hawk T2/Mk167 type trained or ability to obtain this qualification.

Qualifications

  • Idealy Hawk T2/Mk167 type trained.
  • 5 years practical experience and expertise in the application of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
  • 2 years relevant work experience within the aircraft maintenance environment working at a supervisory level exercising certifying privileges.
  • Demonstrating breadth of experience, currency & recency via a Log Book (electronic or paper) capturing skills, knowledge and authorities for working on Aircraft or in workshop.
  • Ideally 6 months experience on type (in the last two years).
  • A comprehensive knowledge of Expositions and Functionally Mandated procedures
  • Management training.
  • IT Literate.
