Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a junior sister/charge nurse to work at Birmingham Children's Hospital, one of the UK's largest primary treatment center's for paediatric oncology and haemotology. The successful post holder will be working on our 8 bedded stem cell transplant unit, we transplant a range of malignant and non - malignant conditions.

Main duties of the job

- To lead the shift, and to be designated to manage the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager/Deputy Ward Manager.

- To assist with the facilitation of feedback from children and carers.

- To assist with ensuring that all members of the nursing team comply with Trust policies and procedures

- To assist with ensuring that all staff adhere to the area child protection committee child protection guidelines and that all staff attend appropriate training sessions.

- To assist with the monitoring and managing of sickness absence in allocated staff group , in line with Trust policies, reporting all issues regularly to the Ward Manager/Deputy Ward Manager

- To assist with ensuring that an effective system of off duty planning and to ensure that there is an appropriate skill mix of staff, reporting any issues to the Ward Manager

- To participate in team/department meetings.

- To act as a positive role model at all times providing professional and clinical leadership to establish a committed team with a clear purpose and direction.

- To have a sound knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.

- Assist with ensuring that Trust policies and procedures are in place and staff are aware of, and adhere to them.

- Training and development needs, including Mandatory Training, are monitored and attendance recorded.

- Promote an effective team ethos.

- Promote equality, diversity and rights, and treat others with dignity and respect ensuring services are developed

Qualifications

Essential

Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) RSCN / RN(Child Branch) Mentors and assessors/teaching qualification or trust equivalent 20 credits at Level 6 in paediatric oncology, or SCT course. experience at Band 5 level or above in paediatric Haematology/Oncology experience at band 5 level or above in paediatric stem cell transplant Good communication and negotiation skills Highly motivated and able to motivate others Flexible to meet service needs

Desirable

Certificate in management or leadership / approved management or leadership training PILS/EPLS Evidence of informal/formal teaching.
