Locum Consultant Respiratory Medicine

Fixed Term

This new post offers the opportunity to join our dynamic networked respiratory service in a post at Newham University Hospital, providing excellence in care of Respiratory patients in the region.

In this role we are seeking to expand the number of WTE Respiratory Consultants doing inpatient work at Newham General Hospital from four to six to facilitate a Consultant of the Week (COW) model of care whilst expanding our capacity for outpatient clinics and other activities.

As a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine in Newham you will deliver ward rounds of respiratory and some general medicine inpatients, currently twice a week for approximately twenty weeks a year. The frequency of ward rounds will increase to daily (Monday-Friday) once the recruitment of ward based Respiratory Consultants is established at 6WTE. A Consultant of the Week model will be introduced and the number of weeks on ward cover per year will reduce accordingly. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing inpatient referrals with the Respiratory SpRs, an opportunity to provide high quality bedside teaching.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive specialist Respiratory Medicine service at Barts Health NHS Trust.

To provide evidence-based care for all inpatients and outpatients.

To have regard at all times for the clinical and quality standards.

To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies and to work collaboratively across East London as required.

To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work across other relevant specialties, working closely with the consultant medical staff.

To participate fully in the management of the Department and to liaise closely with the General Manager and the Clinical Director.

To take an active role in teaching and training in the department and Trust at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
