Main duties of the job

This is an exciting and new opportunity for a Medical Oncologist with an interest and experience in Acute Oncology Service, Gynae and Urology cancers to join an innovative and dynamic team of consultants, specialty doctors and advanced nurse practitioners in the Medical Oncology Service on a 12-month fixed term contract.

Our advanced Acute Oncology Service operates 24/7 in a dedicated unit comprising 12 beds and 4 ambulatory chairs and is staffed with a mixture of dedicated Junior and Senior Fellows, a Specialty Doctor, as well as (t)ACPs. The Gynae and Urology team is comprised of five medical oncologists supported by a team of Specialist Registrars, Specialty Doctors, SHOs, AHP's and Specialist Nurses.

We're looking for a consultant to support the AOS team by providing senior decision making and drive patient flow for 3-4PAs per week, and to delivery outpatient activity for the Gynae and Urology service.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOULL DO:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of senior decision making and management of Haemato-Oncology patients presenting to the Acute Oncology Service. They will be responsible for providing Consultant review in afternoon sessions to give support to the team of specialty and junior doctors and improve patient flow.

You will join the Medical Oncology consultant teams in Gynae and Urology, specifically:

To provide specialist Medical Oncology input with expertise in Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy for these groups of patients.

To treat UHS patients with Gynae and Urology cancers

To provide oncology input to the Gynae MDT

To provide AOS post take ward round cover

As a University Hospital:

All consultants are expected to actively participate in teaching and training of junior medical and nursing staff and allied health professionals

All consultants are expected to clinically supervise junior medical staff

Involvement in educational supervision is expected, subject to General Medical Council requirements

Active involvement in co-ordinating education and training within the department is also encouraged

Qualifications and training

Essential

GMC Registration MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

Recognised training in academic oncology with postgraduate qualification CCT in Medical Oncology (or within 6 months of CCT date) or appropriate qualifications and experience to allow entry on to the Specialist Register

Previous or relevant experience

Broad experience in Medical Oncology Experience of multidisciplinary team working Experience in the management of acutely unwell patients in the Acute Oncology Service

Significant experience in Oncology research Experience of working within the NHS Teaching experience
