Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within the Finance Management Team of South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust for a Finance Analyst. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and flexible individual to support the Finance Manager.

Main duties of the job

Working within the finance team, the post holder will be responsible for the preparation of budgets and the maintenance of strong budgetary controls. Provision of high quality financial information and guidance to budget holders. Maintenance of the financial ledgers and production of standard monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as ad hoc reporting and costing information.

The successful candidates will be either fully qualified AAT, part qualified studying for CIMA/ ACCA or qualified by experience, with excellent IT skills, good communication skills and confidence to influence senior managers and clinicians across the Trust. They will be required to work to tight deadlines and therefore will need the ability to prioritise effectively.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of emergency, urgent care and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services.

The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Surrey and Sussex.

We serve a population of over 7 million and answer over 500,000 urgent calls a year. We employ 4,551 staff who, together with over 1,100 volunteers, enable us to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Preparation of Budgets and forecasts. Maintenance of the financial ledgers. Accurate calculations of accruals and prepayments. production of reports and analysis for budget holders.

Person specification Qualifications, Knowledge and experience Essential criteria
  • Association of Accounting Technicians Membership or part qualified CCAB
  • Previous experience of budget management
  • Previous experience of the apportionment and allocation of costs
  • Previous experience of Month End work
  • Experience of working with highly sensitive, complex information/data, evaluating and presenting evidence
  • Experience of providing trend analysis and the calculation of forecasts
  • Experience of using a computerised finance ledger
  • Experience of using a variety of IT software including Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, PowerPoint
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Displays good interpersonal working relationships across a broad spectrum, communicating effectively across all sectors of the Trust using a range of mediums
  • Good report writing skills, including the incorporation of statistical analysis, evidence synthesis etc
  • Ability to translate abstract concepts and complex issues/information into formats which are understood by the respective audience
  • Excellent time management skills, able to deliver quality work to agreed deadlines
  • Ability to maintain clear focus under pressure
  • Demonstrates the ability to make short term reactive decisions
  • Able to multi-task whilst maintaining high levels of attention to detail
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional and personal quality standards
