Job summary
Ourhaematology team is made up of a wide range of enthusiastic and passionateindividuals which includes 7 consultants (including this post), 3 specialistregistrars, 3 clinical nurse specialists, Advanced Clinical Practitioner and aPhysicians Associate. The team provides clinical and laboratory haematologyservices across the Mid-Yorkshire Teaching Trust which has a catchment populationof just under 600,000 across 3 hospital sites. This appointment is areplacement post joining the well-established team. The Trust is a Teaching Hospitaloffering the potential for honorary academic positions and sub-specialityinterests. We have close links with regional academic institutions and a strongrecord in clinical research alongside a new clinical research and innovationfacility opening with the move to full Teaching Hospital status. Haematology in-patient care is centralized onto the modern centralPinderfields site. We operate a level 3 BCSH service with autologous stem celltransplantation and independent stem cell harvesting provision (JACIE and HTAaccredited). Haematology is supported by the large Trust Research Teamwith dedicated haematology nursing staff who support the weekly MDT and wardrounds alongside team meetings to plan trial activity. There are outpatientclinics held on all 2 hospital sites supported by chemotherapy day units. The Laboratory services have full nationalaccreditation
Main duties of the job
This post holder will be based at Pinderfields, and alongwith colleagues will provide Haematology OPD clinics, support to thechemotherapy daycase units and in-patient ward. The post-holder will beexpected to join the trust intra-thecal chemotherapy register and help deliverintra-thecal treatments.
The post holder will be required to attend the other hospitalsites to support out- patient clinics, day case work and on occasions otherduties as requested by senior colleagues. There will be the opportunity todevelop sub-specialty areas according to the experience and interests ofindividuals and take an active research role/further develop departmentalresearch depending on the candidates wishes.

This post is offered on a fulltime (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will beconsidered.
Duties will be based primarilyon our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although all our medical staff areinvolved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.

We would welcome applications from candidates who have aparticular subspeciality interests and are happy to accommodate and developsub-specialty roles. There will be mentorship provided from senior member(s) ofthe team within the department depending on the successful candidates needs.
The post holder will share responsibility with colleagues forthe supervision and training of junior medical staff and supporting thelaboratory haematology service. The role of Laboratory lead is already takenbut all consultant team members contribute with blood film and bone marrowreview (although all marrows are formally reported at the haematologicalmalignancy diagnostic service (HMDS) in Leeds), support to the BMS ledanticoagulation dosing service and blood transfusion dept. We run a weekly MDT,monthly transplant meeting /MDT and clinic with representation from the LeedsNHSBT and the Regional Transplant Director, which the post holder will have theopportunity to contribute. We also run regular Quality meetings and have adedicated haematology/transplant quality management team.
Urgent andEmergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take dueaccount of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working
On-call duties are currently shared with 6 other colleagueson a {1:6}, currently assessed as Category A 5% PA
Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with theTrust Framework, with at least aminimum of SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCCtime may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidateand changing requirements of the service.
