Main duties of the job

Not an ordinary emergency nursing job St. George's Emergency Department is one of the largest in the country, seeing approximately 160, 000 patients a year. The Trust is one of only four designated Major Trauma Centres in London, with a helipad providing direct access to the ED for the most seriously injured patients. The Trust is also a hyper-acute stroke unit and a heart attack are searching for highly motivated nurse with critical care or emergency nursing experience to join our friendly team of Emergency Care Nurses (ECN). This innovative role was established in 2006 to work primarily in the highly equipped 8-bedded resuscitation area of the Emergency Department providing care and technical expertise to the most severely ill and injured adults and department is committed to supporting on-going professional development with strong links to academic programmes and a well-established work-based development programme. You will supported in further development by the Practice Education Team and medical are looking for nurses with a significant post-registration experience in ED / critical care and a strong interest in emergency and major trauma care. It is essential that you have a post registration specialist course and experience of local management skills within your current area.

The Emergency Department employs over 130 nurses and prides itself on its team work, friendly working environment, flexible working opportunities and ongoing support and dedication to the health and well-being of its team.

You be one of the 11 Emergency Care Nurses within the team overseen by a band 7 team leader - Sally Stone. It is a well supported role with opportunities for ongoing professional development supported by our well established team of Practise Educators in ED.

With nearly9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, they are the largest healthcare provider in southwest main site, St George's Hospital in Tooting - one of the country's principal teaching hospitals - is shared with St George's, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George's Hospital also hosts the St George's, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around million people.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

Registered Nurse Relevant post registration clinically specialty qualification (ie ICU or ED nursing course or equivalent) ILS course Practice Supervisor & assessor

Advanced assessment course ALS course ATNC / TNCC National nursing trauma standards level 1 sign-off

Experience

Essential

Demonstrable experience within speciality (Emergency Department/Critical Care/High Dependency) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience in leading a team Experience in teaching small groups
