We are currently seeking an Deputy Head Teacher based at our SEN School in Congleton.

This school is a friendly and successful provision, currently supporting a number of vulnerable young children aged 7-18 years with special education needs.  The school is also a base for our outreach services.

Key Responsibilities:As a Deputy Head Teacher, you will be required to provide leadership to the teaching team, enabling them to develop outstanding outcomes for our learners whilst acting as a delegated authority in the absence of the Headteacher. 

You will contribute to the educational and social development of each young person, ensuring that we form effective relationships with young people, their families (if appropriate) and external agencies.
You will also be expected:
  • To ensure safeguarding of all young people underpins every decision made
  • To complete regular peer reviews with teaching staff to ensure consistent and high standards of work
  • To schedule and complete termly supervisions with the teaching team
  • To lead on curriculum, teaching and learning, alongside the headteacher.
  •   To lead the school on its approach to assessment
  • To identify strategies to help overcome individual pupils’ barriers to learning
  • To plan and prepare lessons, delivering effective teaching and ensuring pupil’s learn deeply.
  • To meet the emotional and physical needs of our young people and maximize opportunities for their personal development
  • To ensure that equality and diversity is followed and encouraged
  • To ensure that good quality records are maintained and progress monitored
  • To ensure that students experience an educational program that is personalised to the particular needs, identified through a robust assessment system
  • To carry out duties as identified in the Teacher Standards
  • To ensure that young people’s views and wishes are sought and acted upon where appropriate
  • Ensure that appropriate resources and environment exist for individual pupils referred to the service, and that opportunity for inclusion are available to all our students
  • To contribute to the relevant sections of the self-evaluation
  • To liaise with other teachers and teaching assistants in the team to ensure effective deployment of resources
  • To develop and to meet the needs of the school

What we are looking for:
  • Qualified teacher status (QTS)
  • Experience of teaching at key stages 4 and 5, ideally in a core subject (English, maths or science)
  • Candidates who hold a relevant National Professional Qualification e.g. NPQSL, NPQLT or NPQLBC (or willingness to complete such a professional qualification) 
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing and maintaining safeguarding strategies at middle/senior level
  • Proven experience of implementing school-wide assessment.
  • Proven experience in school improvement. 
  • Subject specialism (maths and/or science would be desirable but we welcome applications from qualified teachers of all subjects) and a willingness to teach lessons during holiday/sickness cover
  • SEND/SEMH experience
  • A willingness to act as a delegated authority in the absence of the Headteacher
  • A commitment to continued professional development
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
