This is an exciting role to head up our key technical capability with a focus on building services excellence, sustainability, building performance and low carbon solutions, that enable our multi-discipline teams of Architects and Engineers to create inspirational buildings and places.

This role will report directly into our UK Practice Director and Professional Head of Discipline and have influence over the 900+Engineers and Architects in our UK Building Design practice.

It is an opportunity to join our UK Building Services team, who are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across a plethora of sectors including Residential, Blue Light, Education, Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (e.g. Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Transportation and Defence.

The Role:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and skilled mechanical building services expert with solid experience in delivering consultancy services for private and public sector clients, particularly in the Buildings & Places market. The focus of the role is very much on the design of buildings and their immediate surroundings. It encompasses all aspects of how environmental systems should be an integral part of the design process from the moment of project inception. Areas of attention will include setting the direction of development for projects at concept stages, followed by regular reviews with the team as the designs become fully detailed. For more complex projects there may be a need for more in-depth involvement, depending upon the requirement. With the support of regional Technical Authorities, you will also have a role in setting the quality and technical standards implemented by our teams, identifying new technologies for adoption and providing guidance for training and development initiatives. The position can be based in any of our offices across the UK, with main hubs in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Epsom, Leeds, Warrington and Cardiff. We embrace hybrid working and have a flexible working policy that enables working from home and office locations.

Ability to influence senior management and peers within the industry and positively challenge decisions and processes. Significant experience in the concepts/theories/detailed design/practicalities of Mechanical Building Services design and compliance requirements. Extensive project experience, necessitating high levels of technical competence with a strong focus and track record of the delivery of designs and processes. Demonstrable leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire a team. Good commercial awareness, business management skills and results orientation. Customer focused with a high level of relationship management skills. Confident ability with good communication skills and a professional approach to clients and other AtkinsRéalis employees.
