Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced medicines management pharmacy technicianto lead and coordinate the delivery of a responsive, proactive, patient-focused clinical pharmacytechnician service to the wards. This will include the promotion of safe, effective, and cost-effectivedrug use to facilitate patient admission and enhance continuity of care across the primary/secondary interface. This includes being responsible for leading the team of MMTs, rotational

pharmacy technicians, satellite-based pharmacy support workers and pre-registration traineepharmacy technician trainees (PTPTs), ensuring that their induction, training, assessment, andappraisal is being managed.

The postholder will be responsible for leading and maintaining a pharmacy technician medicinesmanagement service at ward level. This will include a high standard of medicines reconciliation,the assessment of patients own drugs, providing original pack dispensing, counselling patientsabout their medicines and co-ordinating supply of both in-patient and discharge medicines.

The postholder will promote high quality drug use, effective risk management, patient safety -clinical governance initiatives and adherence to trust policies, guidelines and advises on drugbudget management in these areas and carry out pharmacy practice research and clinical audit inthis area of practice. They will support the senior pharmacy and nursing teams in ensuring thatCare Quality Commission (CQC) standards are maintained and that they promote continuousimprovement schemes to address identified actions when needed.

The postholder will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the medical satellite pharmacyincluding allocation of work and ordering and supply of medicines. They will also be responsible forensuring that junior staff are trained and competent do undertake their roles within this area.

Potential candidates should be an accredited checking technician with experience of working atward level and managing a team. They will be confident with the use of pharmacy systemsincluding the ordering of medicines and have a strong commitment to training staff

Main duties of the job
