Job Title: Animal Technician Location: Durham NC 27703 Duration: 12 Months Job Type: Contract Work Type: Onsite Shift: Monday throughFriday 7am to 3pm Job Description:
- This individual will perform daily laboratoryanimal care duties including animal health monitoring animalhusbandry and routing cleaning and sanitation.
- All work assignments will beperformed accordance with SOPs and protocol instructions.
- Must maintain anddemonstrate positive working relationships with coworkers customersbe able to work independently to perform tasks and have regularattendance.
- Performs animal husbandry dutiesto maintain quality and health of research animals to include dailyfeed/water/enrichment and cage or room cleaning as required.
- Cleans assignedanimal rooms isolator environments animal care equipment andassociated animal facility areas daily.
- Maintains accurate records of animal health.
- Assists withhandling and manipulations as per SOPs and protocols.
- Operates equipment and usessupplies according to safety guidelines performs generalhousekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.
- Maintains required attendancelevel and adheres to work schedule in accordance with requiredstaffing levels to ensure that assigned duties are completed.Weekend and holiday coverage is required on a rotation basis.
- Maintains focus onanimal welfare reporting all concerns to management and/or othersas required.
- Mustensure animal welfare guidelines are met building and equipment aremaintained accordingly for internal IACUC inspections andmaintenance of AAALAC accreditation.
- Conducts all euthanasia as trained accordingto AVMA guidelines and completing all documentation.
- Assists in maintaining andstocking inventory.
- Takes the initiative to complete tasks and anticipatesupcoming tasks.
- Ability to work independently.
- Pays attention to detail.
- EducationAA degree preferred
- Experience Lab Animal or agricultural experience desired
- Candidates not allowed to own poultry or swine
- Ability to lift upto 50lbs roll heavy objects use ladders working conditions up to 90degrees or down to freezing.
- Subject to objectionable odors aerosols dust animaldander and noise.
- Not allowed to own poultry or swine
- Multiple showers a day may berequired for biocontainment showering does include washing of hair.
- Work requires use ofappropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including Tyvekshairnets respirator or PAPR gloves safety glasses provided uniformsand shoes.
- AnEnhanced background check will be conducted by client as part ofthe onboarding process.
- A FIT test will need to be conducted before beingallowed into Vivarium areas.
