Main duties of the job

Members may be NHS staff, healthcare professionals, local government staff, social care practitioners, patients, service users and carers, and professionals from the academic world. Committee members agree to:

About us

You will be working with the HealthTech project and technical teams to develop the Compression products for venous leg ulcers: late-stage assessment.

Time commitment: Committee members are expected to attend up to two half day committee meetings and to spend time reading committee documents and helping to produce consultation documents.

Candidates are required to complete and return the confidentiality form alongside their application form

Remuneration: The position of committee member is unpaid. Our committees usually meet virtually using online software, but NICE will pay reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including train fares and hotel costs when necessary, for attending in-person committee meetings.

Other expenses: NICE recognises that in some circumstances individuals will need to arrange for carers or support workers to accompany them to a meeting, or to take over unpaid caring responsibilities while they are at a meeting - this includes childcare or care of a family member with a disability or other additional needs. The circumstances in which NICE can provide reimbursement for such costs are outlined in thenon-staff reimbursement policy.

Review/comment on documents and attend meetings as below:

Lead team meeting Committee meeting(s) Assessment report On behalf of the Committee, advise the external assessment group on request during the assessment phase. advice on the care pathway, the selection and analysis of the evidence, and other relevant issues that require specialist clinical or methodological expertise. Contribute to the Committees deliberations from their own specialist knowledge whilst respecting input from non-specialists and lay persons. Apply their own experience and judgement, rather than act as a representative of their organisation. Work with other members of the Committee and NICE staff to identify key issues and review evidence. Work with other members of the Committee and NICE staff to comment on the evidence and drafts of the guidance assessments. Advise on implementation issues Ensure appropriate consideration of the implications of guidance for equalities. Follow agreed decision-making procedures and accept the collective decisions of the Committee. Abide by NICEs code of conduct for Committee members including NICEs code of practice for declaring and dealing with conflicts of interest and follow the Committees operational procedures. Prepare for Committee meetings by reading the papers and by gathering any additional helpful information Participate in any appropriate training.
