Job summary

North Shoebury Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join the practice, to support the nursing team, on a full-time basis for hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines; new patient health checks; re-stocking and stock rotation of surgical equipment and vaccines; clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms; preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations; providing valuable health promotion and education for service users, their families and carers;

Our professional team work extremely well together, we have monthly clinical training sessions that are held here on site, these are open to all levels of the clinical team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC; Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.

Desirable

A qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working within a GP practice; Strong clinical skills; Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post; Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills; Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues; Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team; Strong organisational and time management skills.
