The Client

Our client is widely regarded as the UK's most specialist provider of intense inpatient and outpatient treatment for children and young people. They have the largest proportion of staff to patients than any other specialist service across the UK, meaning they are able to provide close personal care to all their patients. They currently treat young people aged from 8 to 18 years with Eating Disorders, frequently in terms of a pre-arranged NHS England contract as well as some privately funded cases.

Eating Disorders are extraordinarily complex illnesses that present with abnormalities in physical and psychological functioning. The physical complications have the potential to cause permanent damage and in some cases are life threatening. The causes are complex and multi-factorial, including genetic, neuro-developmental and environmental influences. They require a comprehensive treatment programme including medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and educational interventions.

The Role

The individual in this position will function as part of the nursing team, tasked with providing top-tier nursing assistance to young individuals and their families on a daily basis. Central to this role is the upkeep, support, and enhancement of clinical standards, achieved through collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and senior nurses. This involves active engagement in and maintenance of the structured programme, alongside the creation, execution, and evaluation of care plans. The individual will also guarantee strict adherence to all centre guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical

  1. To work as a competent practitioner and role model in the provision of therapeutic care and treatment to the young people in the service and their families, under the direction of senior nurses, and consultant psychiatrists.
  2. To demonstrate creativity, thoughtfulness, sensitivity and respect to young people and their families at all times.
  3. To ensure that the views and opinions of the young people are actively sought and used to support partnership in the planning and delivery of family centred care.
  4. To participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care plans and treatment decision-making processes.
  5. To possess adequate knowledge of nursing skills, and to provide a welcoming, safe and friendly environment for all young people and families. To take appropriate responsibility for ensuring the internal and external physical environment is organised and developmentally appropriate.

Managerial and Leadership

  1. The post holder is expected to show good use of initiative, discretion, and delegation.

Administrative

  1. To understand the importance of and to ensure that all clinical and legal documents are completed accurately.
  2. To take an active role in maintaining effective communication with all professionals involved with the care and management of the patient group

Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Teaching

  1. To contribute to the education of learners and parents as appropriate.
  2. To be aware of and demonstrate practice based on knowledge of current advances in this field of nursing practice and research.
  3. To participate in teaching, developing and publishing child and adolescent / eating disorders nursing work as appropriate.

Professional Development

  1. To regularly participate in clinical supervision, and to attend staff training/ teaching as required.
  2. To work within the UKCC professional code of conduct at all times.
  3. To be responsible for self-development through professional and managerial appraisal systems.

General

  1. At all times to carry out such other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required from time to time by the Centre, compatible with the objectives and duties and level of responsibility of the post.
  2. To comply with the Data Protection Act.
  3. At all times to promote and follow anti-discriminatory and non-abusive practice.
