Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the job include:
To be responsible for the operational management and overall development of the paediatric and neonatal critical care physiotherapy services within Oxford Children’s Hospital. Clinically, to provide a high standard of physiotherapy care covering a variety of specialties that could include for example cystic fibrosis, respiratory, orthopaedic, neurology, and oncology within the critical care settings and associated outreaching support to the Children’s wards. To play an active role in understanding current and emergent practice education needs and to support the education of staff within the speciality working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. To stay up to date with the evolving evidence base within critical care, adapting services to meet emergent understanding, and to engage with service evaluation, benchmarking audit to evaluate and develop the service. To co-ordinate and participate in the out of hours respiratory physiotherapy weekend and on-call rota for the Oxford Children’s Hospital. Working for our organisationOur friendly and vibrant Children’s Therapy and Gait team consist of approximately staff working across professional groups (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dietitians, healthcare scientists). Together we offer a mix of inpatient and outpatient services to our patients across sites (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, Douglas House, Horton General Hospital. to provide world-class collaborative multi-disciplinary care. We are fortunate to work within a large teaching Trust housing many tertiary and regional clinical specialities which encourages staff development, research and quality improvement initiatives.
Children’s Therapies sits within the NOTSSCaN directorate within Oxford University Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust. There is a strong learning ethos, and the team regularly host students across all professional groups in addition to supporting continual professional development of its staff.
