Main duties of the job

Care co-ordinate and manage a defined caseload of clients with ADHD, ASD and co-morbid disorders with a view to promoting the management of the disorder in a community setting.

Co-ordinate and deliver individualised care packages/programmes for clients with ADHD/ASD and their families and evaluate these programmes, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with national guidelines and trust policy.

Undertake supplementary non medical prescribing duties following appropriate accredited training (this being entered on the NMC register).

Mentoring and providing awareness sessions relating to supplementary nurse prescribing for nurses across the trust/directorate. To lead on developing psycho-education input for children with ADHD/ASD and their families.

Engage therapeutically with clients and their carers in a variety of settings as appropriate to the needs of the client and to be able to assess the risk of working in particular areas. To be able to plan and facilitate appropriate therapeutic intervention including group work for the specialist client group, their families and carers.

Assess and manage high risk clients and assess the risk to the client and others on an ongoing basis within the role as care co-ordinator. To effectively and appropriately communicate these risks often under difficult, highly charged and emotional circumstances to medical staff, other professionals and families involved in the care of the client.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

NMC Registration Excellent working knowledge of mental health presentations in children Postgraduate qualification at Masters level (level 7 postgraduate diploma or masters degree) or equivalent experience Evidence of continuous professional development Evidence of experience in therapeutic interventions relevant to specialty, nurse prescribing CBT, DBT, PSI, EFT, NLP and family interventions / group work Knowledge of a range of NHS, other statutory agencies and voluntary sector providers Demonstrable use of evidenced based research in clinical work

Desirable

Doctorate or working towards Nurse Prescribing Course or will work towards Responsible Clinician status (or working toward)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Extensive experience of working within areas relevant to designated team. Experience of working therapeutically with children and young people. Evidence of having led service development changes. Experience of research and development into practice. Knowledge of clinical governance issues. Experience of working in a nursing leadership role. Experience of working with a wide variety of CAMHS presentations that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
