Job summary
As a qualified EMHP you will be joining a diverse team offering both clinical and non-clinical support to children, young people, and their families across Swindon.
You will deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, under expert supervision and as part of a dynamic and evolving mental health support team.
You will work in partnership with school/college mental health leads by developing a Whole School and College Approach to mental health within your allocated schools.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
You will work in collaboration with otherEMHPs, CWPs and mental health professionals, supervisors to deliver 1:1interventions, groups, parent led interventions, work- shops and stafftraining.
To assess and deliver outcome focused, low intensity,evidence-based interventions in educational settings for children and youngpeople experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, working at alltimes in collaboration with and giving respect to the education function of thesetting in which the post-holder is deployed.
To help children andyoung people within these settings who present with as needing more support torapidly access more specialist services by engaging with more senior staff inthe signposting of referrals.

Job responsibilities
Therapeutic Assessment and Intervention
Workin partnership to support children and young people experiencing mild tomoderate mental health difficulties and their parents/carers, families, andeducators in the self-management of presenting difficulties.
Work in effective, evidence-based partnership with children, youngpeople, their families and their educators in the development of plans for theintervention and agreed outcomes.
Support and empower children, young people, their parents/carersand families and their educators to make informed choices about theinterventions being offered.
Operate at all times, from an inclusive values base, whichrecognises and respects diversity.
Accept referrals within educational settings according to agreedlocal and national and local protocols.
Undertake and record accurate assessments of risk and operateclear risk management processes in line with locally agreed proceduresincluding the safeguarding protocols of the educational setting and LocalSafeguarding Board guidance.
Adhere to all regulations, processes, and procedures within theeducational service to which the post holder is attached and within the organisationwhere the post-holder is employed including (but not limited to) HR policies,training requirements,referral protocols, and emergencyprocedures. Support referrals of children with more complex needs to a locallyidentified appropriate relevant service, escalate cases where the level ofneed or risk is beyond the scope of practice of the post holder.
Provide a range of information and support for evidence basedpsychological treatments, primarily guided self-help.
Practice,evidence and demonstrate an ability to manage ones own caseload in conjunctionwith the requirements of the team.
Attend multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings relating toreferrals or children and young people in treatment, where appropriate.
Keep clear, professionally coherent records of all activity inline with both health and education service protocols and use these records andoutcome data to inform decision making.
Complete all requirements relating to data collection.
Assess and integrate issues relating to transitions, education,and training/employment into the overall therapeutic process.
Work within a collaborative approach involving a range of relevantothers when indicated.
Contribute to the development of individual or group clinicalmaterials or training materials, and in addition to develop such materialsindependently as falls within own degree of competence, and under direction ofthe wider team.
Training and Supervision
Continueto apply learning gained on the training program directly to practice.
Prepare and present case load information to supervisors withinthe service on an agreed and scheduled basis to ensure safe practice and thegovernance obligations of the EMHP, supervisor and service are delivered.
Respond to and implement supervision suggestions by supervisors inpractice.
Engage in and respond to personal development supervision toimprove competences and practice.
Todisseminate research and service evaluation findings in appropriate formatsthrough agreed channels.
Professional
Toensure the maintenance of standards of own professional practice.
To ensure appropriate adherence to any new recommendations orguidelines set by the relevant departments.
To ensure that confidentiality is always protected.
To ensure that any risks or issues related to the safety andwellbeing of anyone the post holder comes into contact within the course of theirprofessional duties are communicated and shared with appropriate parties inorder to maintain individual safety and the public interest.
To ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed, and reviewedwith supervisor and senior colleagues on a regular basis as part of continuingprofessional development.
Participate in individual performance/appraisal review and worktowards agreed objectives.
Keepall records up to date in relation to Continuous Professional Development andthe requirements of the post and ensure personal development plans maintains upto date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service deliverymodels/developments.
Attend relevant educational opportunities in line with identifiedprofessional objectives.

Essential
Qualification from CYP Educational Mental Health Practitioners Course (EMHP), - Post Graduate Diploma/Graduate Dip Mental Health Practice in Education Settings.
Desirable
A further relevant degree qualification. Youth Mental Health First Aid trained.
Experience
Essential
Experience of working with anxiety disorders. Experience of working with affective (mood) disorders. Experience of the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people or their families ( CBT, solution focused brief therapy). Experience of working with children and their families in an education setting. Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders. Experience of working with children and their families in a healthcare setting. Experience of monitoring and recording outcome measures for childrens emotional wellbeing.
Desirable
Experience of working with looked after children. Experience of working with other vulnerable groups.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
Knowledge of educational environments. Knowledge of children and young people gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing or mental health. Highly developed knowledge of child and adult safeguarding. Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with children. Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with families. Ability to conduct group parenting programmes. Ability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness within the staff group. Ability to conduct mental health assessments of children and young people. Ability to make an assessment of risk and to record and communicate it appropriately. Ability take appropriate action to mitigate or manage risk.
