An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Band 7 dietitian post, within the dietetic team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, NHS Foundation Trust. The opportunity is to work within:

·         Our neurology team covers acute inpatient neurology, outpatient neuromuscular and the ketogenic diet service and is the principal provider of specialist epilepsy services, both emergency and elective, for London (North of the Thames) and the surrounding counties.

·         Our centre is the largest paediatric metabolic medicine service in the UK and is the main provider for London (North of the Thames) and the surrounding counties.

Our aim is to deliver efficient, high quality, multi-disciplinary care to children with complex disorders. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of a department who provide a clinical service to in and outpatients across the paediatric age range 0-19 years.  

We are looking for a dynamic dietitian with substantial general paediatric experience who wants to further develop their skills within two highly specialist areas.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and high-quality dietetic service for both inpatients and outpatients working to agreed standards, policies and procedures.

  •  

    Using specialised knowledge to manage a caseload of patients with different underlying conditions.

  • Assessment of the patient’s needs for all children in the caseload, considering their diet history, growth and biochemical parameters and any relevant drug treatments. Making clinical decisions regarding the necessary nutritional support and dietary interventions

  • Comparing normal nutritional requirements in childhood and interpreting these for the sick child according to the disease process and relevant anthropometry to initiate and maintain a treatment plan

  • Development and updating of diet sheets and other educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust
  • Close liaison with the diet service technicians and tasks to support the operation and functions of the Special Feeds Unit and Diet Kitchen
  • Teaching and supporting dietitians, diet service technicians, dietetic assistants, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of nutrition and dietary management through informal tutorials and formal study days
  • Freedom to act interpreting the Health Professions Council code of conduct and working to all agreed standards, policies and procedures within the department and the Trust
