In Mid & South Essex, we have been developing an advanced practice directorate to be able to drive NHS England's long term workforce plan in expanding our advanced practice workforce. The advanced practice leadership team all have a clear vision on how the advanced practice workforce can support our population health needs with the right support, education, training and clinical supervision.

You will sit within the Mid & South Essex system organisation of the Primary Care Training Hub and will focus on leading, supporting and expanding the advanced practitioner workforce across the primary care workforce. You will work on Mid and South Essex's key priority initiatives in advanced practice such as access to ongoing education, clinical supervision, community of practice and opportunities across the four pillars of advanced level practice.

This post is a part time position with hybrid working, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to continue their advanced clinical practice alongside this leading role.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert advice and leadership relating to advanced practitioners in the formulation of strategic and operational plans and policies, so our highly skilled advanced practitioner workforce continues to develop and work effectively to meet the needs of the population we serve.

Develop the advanced practitioner long term strategy in partnership with stakeholders, including the divisions, identifying interdependencies across projects/functions and the potential impacts on the wider organisation.

Keep an accurate and up-to-date register of advanced practitioners and aspiring advanced practitioners in the organisation.

Lead on embedding of the Advanced Practice Organisation Framework including maintaining performance, training, supervision, annual appraisals and having a robust quality assurance process to monitor this.

Provide coaching and guidance to the advanced practitioner and aspiring advanced practitioner workforce and building meaningful and supportive relationships across the organisation.

The successful candidate will currently be an experienced Advanced Practitioner working within MSE system organisations, they will have a MSc Advanced Practice or equivalent, and have experience in leading, managing, influencing and inspiring staff.

The successful candidate will have experience in leading, managing and delivering significant change projects, be a role model for qualified and aspiring advanced practitioners and be an excellent communicator.

ROLE PURPOSE / SUMMARY

The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System comprises of the Integrated Care Board (ICB), which is the statutory body for the NHS, and brings together key health, care, community and voluntary sector organisations across the area.

The ICS has a bold ambition to deliver improved outcomes for our population through our four Alliances, and we are placing clinical and professional leadership and the voice of our residents at the heart of realizing this ambition.

The vision of the Mid & South Essex Integrated Care System is to build a sustainable, caring, integrated health and social care workforce. The aim is to put more of our talented and committed clinical and care professionals forward to be able to influence how our communities are served. Advanced Practitioners are vital for looking at ways in transforming our services to meet the needs of individuals, families, and carers.

MSE are developing an Advanced Practice Directorate, working with Health Education England and along with the MSE Partners to provide a clear vision on advanced level practice, ensuring there are adequate opportunities, support and leadership structures in place for advanced practitioners, organisations, and respective health services.

The Advanced Practitioner Lead will sit within the MSE primary care training hub to focus on leading and expanding the advanced practitioner workforce. They will work within the newly formed Advanced Practice Directorate, and work alongside the Advanced Practice Lead for the ICS, and the other MSE organisation Advanced Practitioner Leads in delivering a clear vision on advanced level of practice and the level of support required.

The post holder will co-ordinate the development and implementation of programmes with the MSE Advanced Practice Directorate, ensuring projects are completed accurately and timely and are fed back to the MSE Advanced Practice Faculty.

The post holder will ensure the advanced practice strategies are aligned to improve both quantity and quality of the advanced practice workforce within the MSE organisation to deliver on health outcomes for the population we serve.

COMPETENCY BASED KEY DELIVERABLES

Professional lead for multiple members of staff, with diverse registered professional backgrounds, including to provide support and guidance in relation to revalidation guidance from professional bodies (NMC/HCPC/GPhC etc) around maintaining professional standards. Provide coaching and guidance to the advanced practitioner and aspiring advanced practitioner workforce and building meaningful and supportive relationships across the organisation. Provide expert clinical leadership in the development and delivery of new internal systems and processes which facilitate improved advanced practitioner recruitment, continuous professional development and retention of workforce. Develop and maintain effective relationships with partners and other external bodies (regionally and nationally) and use these relationships to continually improve service deliver across the ICS. Provide updates to the ICS Advanced Practice Faculty and relevant organisation boards, analysing any risks in the delivery of the programmes and proposing corrective actions. Lead on the Advanced Practitioner Forum and Advanced Practice Oversight Group (APOG). Sharing of educational opportunities for all advanced practitioner workforce. Identify and share best practice, including dissemination of research, of advanced practitioners across the organisation.
