Applications are invited for a full-time (6.5PA) Locum Consultant post in the Department of Renal Medicine and Transplantation at Barts Health NHS Trust to commence from immediate effect for 6 months. The department is one of the largest and busiest in the UK and provides comprehensive whole-pathway renal & transplant care from the hub in Whitechapel to six networked kidney centres.

There is a strong academic tradition within the Centre for Translational Medicine & Therapeutics at the William Harvey Research Institute (Queen Mary, University of London), along with the recently established the Diabetic Kidney Centre in East London. There is also a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching. The post includes chronic dialysis haemodialysis program, specialist IgA and transplant clinic and ambulatory care.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the development and provision of a comprehensive renal service at Barts Health NHS Trust with a focus on haemodialysis, nephrology, and transplantation. To provide evidence -based care for all inpatients and outpatients. To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in relevant NHS guidance and the Care Quality Commission, including the 18 weeks waiting time standard. To participate fully in the management of the Department and to liaise closely with the Lead Clinician, Service Manager, General Manager and Clinical Director. The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The duties outlined are not definite and may be changed in accordance with needs of the service requiring the post holder to be cooperative and flexible.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

MB BS, or equivalent MRCP or equivalent Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC)

Desirable criteria

Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

Widespread broad-based knowledge of all aspects of renal medicine, dialysis and transplantation

Desirable criteria

Interest in building a career in procedures/Interventional nephrology Able to undertake Native and transplant renal biopsies independently without supervision.

Training Expected

Essential criteria

Higher Specialist Training in Renal Medicine , Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates

Management/Audit Experience

Essential criteria

Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy. Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion

Desirable criteria

Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare Experience of audit management

Research/Publications

Essential criteria

Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact. Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to surgery Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems Demonstrate number of first name publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post

Desirable criteria

PhD/ MD Thesis Research experience in transplantation
