Job summary

Therapeutic apheresis is a patient facing service provided by NHS Blood and Transplant and is highly regarded within the organisation as a flagship service. There are currently eight therapeutic apheresis regions throughout England and South Wales providing lifesaving and life enhancing treatments to patients. This post is an opportunity to work on a national level with an established and clinically expert team.

An experienced nurse educator who is passionate about the education & training of the workforce will thrive in this role. As the national lead for education in apheresis, there will be endless opportunities to develop the education service within the function, to design and implement strategy and lead and manage the Education team to deliver effective programmes to staff, enhancing patient safety and satisfaction of the workforce.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the Senior Nursing Team within Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS), you will support the education and training strategy. Your responsibilities include:

Managing and leading a team of Education Lead Nurses to provide education and training within TAS. Developing and implementing education, training, and professional development for TAS Nurses and support colleagues, ensuring the delivery of NHSBT and TAS Corporate Strategy and relevant national Nursing initiatives/strategies. Ensuring the teams professional development is responsive to changing service and workforce need. Establishing systems to ensure that nurse education meets organisational need, demonstrates value for money and delivers the Boards strategic and operational objectives. Leading projects and developing strategies for service improvement that reflect clinical, professional and corporate objectives. Establishing external networks to identify best practice and training opportunities to support the strategic direction of the Directorate. Developing and collaborating in an active programme of research, audit and evaluation in Therapeutic Apheresis Services and patient treatments. Acting as a facilitator in the management & implementation of change, supported by Head of Education and Governance.

Qualifications

Essential

Masters degree or equivalent demonstrable experience to Masters level in a related specialism. Registered RN Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained). Possession of a teaching or asessing qualification, ENB 998, C&G 7303 or D32/33. Possession of a post graduate qualification in education. Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).

Experience

Essential

Significant and effective experience in teaching/practice educator at a senior level. Implementation of change management with demonstrable success in change. Extensive and expert clinical knowledge and able to link theory to practice. Developing and implementing policies, guidelines, and projects. Awareness of CQC outcomes and registration frameworks. Research, audit, and project management experience. Formal and informal teaching experience. Leadership and management experience. Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
