Ward 1 is an exciting and fast paced ward that delivers high quality care to children with congenital and acquired heart conditions and their families.

We provide surgical and medical care as in-patients whilst also facilitating some investigations and medication management on a day case basis, with promoting positive patient experience being at the heart of our care.

To achieve this we work collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team together with our Children's cardiac outpatient department, Children's Cardiac Intensive Care unit, Children's Cardiac Specialist Nurses and the wider Children's Hospital here at Leicester Royal Infirmary and across the East Midlands Congential Heart Service network.

Children's cardiology provides a variety of opportunities for developing your skills and knowledge in this exciting and interesting specialty. We are a friendly, supportive and welcoming team who enjoy sharing our knowledge and expertise. You will be supported with an induction and orientation tailored to your experience as well be being able to work with our clinical skills facilitator.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluatingprogrammes of evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients.

Assisting and contributing in the management and organisation of a ward/clinical area.

Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards ofquality nursing care.

Actively participate in the education, development and supervisionof other staff members.

Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing andsupporting students and learners on placement within the clinicalarea.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet theneeds of patients and their families.

Staff Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

Policy Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.

Job responsibilities

Ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the children and their families.

Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide holistic, evidence based nursing care.

Carry out observations, investigations and treatment as required.

Work closely with the MDT and multiple specialties in order to improve patient care.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

Evidence of ongoing professional development Evidence of willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service Registered Nurse - Children's NMC Registration

Desirable

Has successfully completed a previous NMC approved teaching and assessing or practice assessor programme or equivalent.

Communication skills

Essential

Able to communicate well in variety of settings with patients of all cultures and differing levels of understanding Understands importance of team working and their role within mdt Able to maintain accurate patient records Able to present written and verbal information, deal with questions basic knowledge of IT

Experience

Essential

Relevant clinical experience, newly qualifie/band 5 Experience in supporting learners in the workplace and supervising/assessing progress

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential

Ability to make decisions and prioritise clinical patient workload Demonstrates knowledge of professional NHS local and national policies Demonstrates understanding of quality and change and the importance of new ways of working

Planning & Organisational Skills
