The Company recently reached their seed funding and this is now a crucial & exciting time for the business as we look to appoint a Graduate Naval Architect (Marine Tech).

This role is highly autonomous and will see you influence and pioneer a new class of renewable energy to help combat climate change.


The Role

This role will work as part of the Vessel Design team, supporting the technical marine aspects of the overall MVY energy yacht design, working towards a groundbreaking first of its type deployment. Accountable for various aspects of the design, this role will have involvement with the end-to-end design and production process (the ‘Design Loop’).


Your Task


3-Month Deliverables:

•Contribute to project progress by collaborating effectively with the Vessel Design team, actively participating in technical marine design activities.

•Propose suitable solutions using creative problem-solving techniques to address technical challenges encountered during design and implementation.

•Gain a comprehensive understanding of marine-related aspects in design and production, actively supporting various tasks across multiple projects.


6-Month Deliverables:

•Fostering effective communication and collaboration to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders within the DRIFT team and external network.

•Develop a deeper awareness of the entire ship design process, actively contributing insights and recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

•Ensure timely resolution and project continuity by proactively identifying and escalate risks to the Head of Vessel Design, accompanied by well-thought-out solutions.


12-Month Deliverables:

•Integrate sustainability considerations into all aspects of design and implementation, aligning solutions with company goals and objectives.

•Take on increased responsibility in supporting a wide range of tasks across multiple projects, demonstrating competence and reliability in design and production elements.

•Demonstrate proficiency in addressing technical challenges and providing innovative solutions, contributing to the continuous improvement of the end-to-end process within the Vessel Design team.


*Please note, this is a full-time, long-term role. This is not a fixed term contract.


Your Skills and Experience


Essential skills & experience:

•Degree in marine technology, naval architecture or relevant field. BEng or MEng, preferred 2:1.

•Pro-active, can do attitude

•Ability to problem solve and identify recommended solutions

•Stong understanding of engineering first principles

•A broad understanding of ship stability and naval architecture design principles


Desirable Skills & Experience:

•Experience within the Maritime and Energy sectors

•Knowledge of marine design rules

•Exceptional communication skills and presentation skills

•Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills

•Experience in sailing or designing for wind technology
