Job summary

This is an excitingopportunity for a motivated nurse to join our existing team to undertakeclinical research in respiratory diseases. The portfolio includes observationalstudies, clinical trials of investigational medicinal products (CTIMPs) andmedical device trials. Research areas include lung cancer, pleural diseases,COPD, asthma, Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic cough, andrespiratory sleep and breathing disorders. Co-ordination and the provision ofcare for participants on the trials, the collection and preparation ofbiological samples and collection of trial data are key elements of the role.

Main duties of the job

The post holderwill be responsible for the day-to-day management of the respiratorytrials/studies allocated to them. They will be expected take part in allaspects of respiratory care & trial assessments, including spirometry,phlebotomy, ECGs, observations and history taking. They will also need to:

Haveexcellent record keeping skills and maintain files and notes accurately.

Educatepatients re: medication use and completing diaries and train relevant healthcare workers regarding trial protocols.

Liaisewith the multidisciplinary team and trial monitors.

Attendrelevant training which sometimes requires travel

Supportthe research team to recruit patients into respiratory trials under theguidance of the local investigator, attendingmeetings and clinics as necessary

Evaluate eligibility of potential patients against trial inclusion and exclusion criteria

Supportthe clinicians in gaining informed consent, undertaking randomisation,treatment allocation as stipulated in the trial protocol

Coordinate and undertake patient study visits liaisingwith the patient, study doctor and other Oxford University Hospital FoundationTrust departments (, Radiology, Lung Function) as required. This will require highly effective verbal,non-verbal and written communication skills

Plan, implement and deliver care for patientstaking part in clinical trials in so much as it interacts with the researchprotocol

Research areas include a range of respiratory conditions like lung cancer, pleural diseases, long COVID, sarcoidosis, COPD, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic cough, and respiratory sleep and breathing disorders.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of allocated respiratory trials and main responsibilities will include:

Coordinating and providing care for trial participants Collecting and processing biological samples Gathering and managing trial data

You will take part in all aspects of respiratory care and trial assessments, including spirometry, phlebotomy, ECGs, observations and history taking.

About You

You will be responsible for the planning and day-to-day management of assigned respiratory studies. Essential qualities and skills include:

NMC Registered Adult Nurse Have excellent record keeping skills and maintain files and notes accurately. Educate patients about medication use and diary completion Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and trial monitors to ensure recruitment and follow-up according to trial protocols and Good Clinical Practice. Work closely with other research nurses and practitioners in the delivery team to ensure optimal care and support for trial participants in our research portfolio. Participate in team meetings and attend relevant training sessions and investigator meetings, which may require travel.

Desirable skills include venepuncture, spirometry and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
