Job Description

 Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit  Reporting to the Turbine Island Lead, the Senior Mechanical Engineer shall be responsible for various Turbine Island design development activities. The Senior Mechanical Engineer shall work closely with multi-disciplined teams and the supply chain to help deliver the Turbine Island design. 

Your mission:

Heat Balance Diagrams: Develop and review Heat Balance Diagrams for the Turbine Island and conventional plant systems.
Team Collaboration: Work with operations, control, and instrumentation teams to integrate the Turbine Island operation philosophy.
Design Documentation: Create and review Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Component Sizing Calculations, Datasheets, and Specifications.
Optioneering & Design Studies: Lead and review Optioneering Studies, Decision Record Files, Design Descriptions, and Requirement Specifications.
⚙️ Design Integration: Ensure seamless integration of Turbine Island design into the overall power plant.
Technical Support: Act as the technical contact for Turbine Island interfaces and stakeholder activities.
Support Reviews: Participate in Design Reviews and HAZID/HAZOP studies with multidisciplinary teams.
️ Ensure Compliance: Adhere to statutory H&S policies, project quality, and the Quality Management System.

Qualifications

Your Background:  

Industry Experience: Previous work in nuclear, thermal power, oil & gas, or other highly regulated sectors. Skilled with steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping systems.
Design Expertise: Experience from FEED to detailed design and EPC delivery.
Procurement: Proficient in developing procurement specifications and collaborating with suppliers.
⚙️ Technical Strength: Extensive technical background in thermal power systems or similar projects.
Communication: Excellent at interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
Project Management: Skilled in identifying and managing critical interfaces on major projects.
️ Safety Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of UK Health and Safety regulations, safety systems, HAZOP, and engineering standards.
Codes & Standards: Familiar with ASME, European, and UK codes and standards.
Systems Engineering: Awareness or experience in Systems Engineering is a plus.

Personal Attributes:

Results-Oriented: Independent, proactive, and team-focused with strong organizational skills.
Confidentiality: Professional in handling sensitive nuclear information, adhering to export control obligations.
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in engineering Professional Registration: CEng or working towards it.
Security Clearance: SC Clearance or capable of achieving it.
