Responsibilities

Apply & continue to develop a breadth of engineering skills, in the discipline of Marine Engineering and where applicable, covering disciplines such as mechanical, structural, and electrical systems. Define & conduct specific engineering analysis and project management techniques and keep abreast of emerging technologies that could improve the company and/or client processes & outputs. Deliver technical oversight & governance across a wide range of maritime engineering projects, ensuring compliance with defined standards, codes & business practices. Provide mentoring support, guidance & leadership and enable opportunities for the Marine Systems Engineering capability to grow & develop skills, knowledge & experience to further enhance our provision of technical services. Investigating and solve complex technical problems in concept, basic and detailed designs. Develop and maintain written technical and administrative procedures, standards, processes, practices, guidelines, and standards. Assist with the maintenance and improvement in quality standards of engineering, design, and production information. Interface directly with our customers and clients, representing our teams to discuss engineering solutions to complex problems.

Qualifications

Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (., Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Naval Engineering), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain. Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (RINA, IMarEST, IMechE). Recognised as a Chartered Engineer by the UK Engineering Council (or an ability to achieve within 6 months).

Essential Skills

Experienced in at least one of the following key technical knowledge areas: Primary & secondary propulsion systems. Power generation & electrical distribution. Marine Structures (Main & Auxi, CAT A, B Seats) Auxiliary machinery and mechanical/fluid ship systems. P&ID Checking / Approving Pipework/structural/electrical engineering calculations and analysis checking. Detailed design Experience of using design & analysis software packages (., FORAN, Ship Constructor, TRIBON, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys Structural/Fluent, MatLab, Star CCM+, MS Excel). A readiness to grow & develop your technical & behavioural competence to operate at the cutting edge of your discipline. The drive to work in a collaborative environment with a natural curiosity and continuous improvement approach, challenging yourself and others to find new solutions. Demonstrate an understanding of the decarbonisation challenges faced by the marine industry today and in the future (IMO regulations, Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)).

Desired Skills

An understanding of the role of a Marine Engineer throughout all stages of the design lifecycle. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of applying classification society rules, regulations and standards in the design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases. Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, through-life maintenance, and disposal. Experience of leading multi-discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively. Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects & customers.

Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 8 years post-graduate experience (12 years for non-degree qualified) working in either the commercial or naval maritime domain.
