CIEE London Course Instructor: Communities, Cultures and Policing, Fall Block II 2024

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is seeking an instructor to teach an in-person course entitled Communities, Cultures and Policing, for the CIEE Open Campus program over the upcoming Fall Open Campus.
Examining the impact of leadership, mission, resourcing, and accountability in the context of policing, this course seeks to demonstrate community policing as a specific model of policing applied in different socio-cultural,
economic, and political contexts globally. Grounded in the host location, learners will examine the models of policing deployed in their learning context, and compare, contrast, and evaluate the nuanced distinctions that
differentiate the various models of policing deployed in the host cultural context, and other internationally comparative contexts, such as the policing models of the USA. Learners will identify the resources and methods
that mark community policing, and the processes involved for police forces and police services shifting to and from a community policing model. Learners will also examine ethnographic case studies of community policing in the
context of significant community disaffection or security disruption, and assess the bespoke cultural challenges presented to the community policing model in these contexts.
Course instruction takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in 2.5 hour blocks per teaching day over a 6 week period. Each course comprises 45 contact hours or a total of 16 class sessions, encompassing lectures at the CIEE London Centre and co-curricular excursions. Our instructors also provide one office hour per week where they are available to meet students.
