Job summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, integration and testing of electrical equipment in the powertrain and aircraft. They should be experienced working with high voltage (60-1000VDC) electrical systems and be knowledgeable about relevant safety requirements and procedures.


Your responsibilities

Collaborate with colleagues to capture electrical system requirements and integration requirements for other systems, including aerothermal and structural integration.

Design safe and reliable electrical systems for high voltage and high power systems.

Mechanical and thermal modelling of electrical components, e.g., busbars.

Contribute to FMEA of the systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

Hardware selection and support procurement process.

Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure delivery of parts to specification in a timely fashion.

Electrical system assembly and integration into powertrain/aircraft.

Testing and evaluation of electrical hardware.

Support testing and troubleshooting of overall powertrain and aircraft systems.

Manage project work packages through full lifetime maintaining budgetary control, risk management and technical quality to ensure work packages meet their objectives.

Document and report progress to line manager.

Identify innovation opportunities and protect intellectual property.


Essential

University Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.

2-4 years’ industry experience developing electrical systems.

Has previously built and tested a high voltage (60-1000VDC) electrical system.

Experience doing FMEA of electrical systems.

Experience designing electrical components, e.g., busbars.

Experience with ECAD, e.g., AutoCAD electrical.

Experience with electrical system simulation software, e.g., MATLAB Simulink.


Desirable

Experience with electrical systems including an electric motor.

Experience with electrical systems including a high voltage battery.

Experience with electrical systems including a hydrogen fuel cell.

Experience with alternative cable materials e.g., aluminium wiring.

Knowledge of aerospace electrical standards.

Experience with experiment control software, e.g., LabView, MATLAB Simulink.

Experience with mechanical and thermal modelling software, e.g., ANSYS.

Experience with Python, MATLAB or similar.

Possession of High Voltage handling qualification.
