Purpose of job


Our aim is to become a market leader in the provision of Electric Vehicle charging solutions to Local Authorities and Businesses as part of our strategy to lead the transition to zero carbon.

The goal is to undertake an ambitious electric vehicle charging installation program, deploying high volume and quality EV installations across the nation. Our aim is to make the world a better place, one charge point at a time.

The Data Engineer will work within Zest’s Data team to ensure the suitability and availability of all data sources contained within the data lake through close collaboration with the IT development team. The role is also key to providing insights to business leaders through gathering requirements and presenting back important analytical findings, and supporting data improvement processes.


Key Accountabilities

The role is responsible for the following:


  • Working closely with IT development team for development and maintenance of Data Lake functionality
  • Design and development of robust data models
  • Build, optimize, and manage robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Documenting of processes for sufficient audit trail and information for colleagues
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, improving efficiency and reliability
  • Gathering requirements for new data acquisition to ensure data team have access to required data from both within the business and externally
  • Work with other departments to understand their data needs, and provide meaningful data to aid their business decisions, using tools such as PowerBI
  • Plus any other duties as required by the leadership team

  • Optimised data pipeline architectures, ensuring seamless flow and availability of datasets.
  • Optimisation of SQL
  • Contributing to ensuring the long-term data requirements of the business are met across all departments
  • Development of automated data solutions as per development processes and tools
  • Key stakeholders using data output in decision making
  • Relevant data accessible by members of the business as required

External – 3rd party data providers, customers


Knowledge and Skills


  • A strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and principles of database design.
  • AWS CDK (for IoC), GitLab, CI/CD pipeline
  • Understanding of database normalization and denormalization processes.
  • Proficient in developing, optimizing, and maintaining ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in version control using GIT, understanding branching, merges, and pull requests.
  • Understanding of AWS cloud-based infrastructure and services.
  • Proficiency in creating meaningful data visualizations using tools like Power BI
  • Knowledge of appropriate coding languages including Python
