Hybrid role with our HQ in Wollaston, UK

As our new Regional General Counsel, you will be one of our go to experts for legal advice on commercial and contractual issues across our business. You’ll be helping the business to navigate complex legal issues and overcome the challenges that it encounters, including devising mitigation strategies for legal risks.

You’ll be working with global and international Commercial, Sales and Procurement stakeholders to develop an efficient and scalable approach for building multi-jurisdictional customer and supplier/partner arrangements including guidance, templates, checklists, training and supporting technology.

Working closely with our global teams, you’ll be collaborating on ongoing operational matters and integration initiatives, including compliance, real estate, EESG and corporate governance.

Utilising your strategic way of thinking, you’ll be advising on avoiding and managing disputes and advising on strategy for resolution including risk assessment, negotiating settlements, drafting correspondence and preparing for litigation.

Some of your key responsibilities:

  • Manage or participate in legal projects, to improve the delivery of advice, compliance and legal services to the business.
  • Helping to deliver legal training programmes and maintain template documents and guidance notes.
  • Liaise with external advisors on aspects of commercial, company and corporate law.
  • Maintain an effective contract management system.
  • Ensure that the processes in the legal and commercial department are continuously improved with a view to improving the speed of on-boarding customers and suppliers in a risk-assessed manner.
  • Maintain up to date legal registers on legislation affecting the business.
  • Support development of policies, processes, templates, tools, and training to meet and facilitate the Scott Bader strategic objectives.

What do I need to be successful in this role?

  • We would love you to be a commercially astute qualified lawyer, with experience in a fast-paced, growth environment and ideally with 4+ years international experience.
  • You’ll have proven experience providing legal advice on commercial agreements.
  • You have the ability to analyse complex contractual terms and factual scenarios, identify legal and commercial risks stemming from them, and devise strategies for mitigating them.
  • You’re comfortable in leading the legal aspects of contract negotiations and an aptitude for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of different arguments and negotiating effectively.
  • You have a strong commercial awareness and an understanding of the role of an in-house legal team.
  • You’ll have the confidence and gravitas to challenge decisions and actions when required, and to actively contribute to business discussions.
  • Must be a team player, we don’t do dictators at Scott Bader.

What’s in it for me?

  • A competitive salary alongside being included into our company bonus scheme. Our Group Staff Bonus & Profit Performance Pay bonus scheme reinforces the Scott Bader principle of working together for a common goal and sharing in our successes.
  • Enhanced employer contribution whereby Scott Bader will contribute a maximum of 2x your contribution, up to a maximum of 10%.
  • Private medical insurance alongside a host of further discounts and employee benefit schemes
  • 25 days annual leave entitlement plus Bank Holidays – We also offer the opportunity to purchase an additional 5 day’s annual leave in case you need a couple of extra days.
  • We offer all our employees one full day per year to complete volunteering work of your choice which is fully paid. Alongside this, if you are thinking about fundraising for your favourite charity or local community event, we will happily match the funds that you have raised up to a maximum of £1000 in any one year.
  • Our Head Office sits within 44 acres of Northamptonshire countryside, nestled within the village of Wollaston. Access to free onsite car parking, electric car charging points, discounted cafeteria and even an onsite swimming pool.
