About the role

Working as part of the engineering team, the C&I Engineer provides control and instrumentation support for the Lanxess Trafford Park site. You will be responsible for control and instrumentation systems as well as the strategical development and improvement for the site. As the C&I Engineer you will be part of the site HAZOP team and responsible for the awareness of safety measures, including the fully functional safety documentation (e.g., LOPA, SIS calculation,). Ensuring effective communication of and implementation of C&I engineering standards in line with current Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation, Lanxess Regulations/Standards/Guidelines, and professional standards.


Main Responsibilities:

C&I Engineering

Management and support of the site PLCs, SCADA system, and Distributed Control System (Delta V and Fisher Provox) and the site Safety Instrumented System (HIMA HiMAX).

Design, commission, and manage the installation of instrument loops.

Complete functional safety documentation including SIL calculations and safety requirement specifications.

Operations Support - fault finding, software interventions, training, Alarm management, and process improvements.

Support Operational Technology Systems including OSI Soft PI


Compliance

Supervision and providing of technical guidance to the Site Management Team for the operational, safety and regulatory compliance for all levels of control & instrument installation.

Investigate SIS failures and provide solutions where required.

Review and check of technical vendor submittals ensuring compliance for all levels of control and instrument installations.

Support the site HAZOP programme: pre-information, attending sessions and close-out of control system related actions.


Site Projects

In cooperation with the Head of Projects, manage C&I project pipeline, support the annual budget planning and Financial Investment Approval processes.

Project management and engineering of own small site CAPEX projects.

Manage of C&I resources within site and global LANXESS capacity expansion projects.

Implement software and hardware modifications, implement Management of Change procedures.

Larger Projects - support FEED studies providing technical input, detailed engineering, execution, commissioning, and early operations.



About You

You will be an experience C&I Engineer with around 3-5 years experience working in a similar position with experience working on a COMAH site. You must be highly organised with great attention to details and be a strong communicator. You will be proactive and enjoy a mix of being out on plant and getting your head down to focus on projects.

Skills and attributes:

  • Degree in Engineering discipline (controls or instrumental)
  • Chartership or working towards
  • Previous experience with Delta V is essential. Fisher Provox experience desirable.
  • Cost awareness and have managed maintenance and capital budgets.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of common C&I regulations (e.g., IEC 61511, ATEX)
  • Knowledge of current Health, Safety and Environment Legislation and Engineering Standards.
  • A good understanding of maintenance processes and experience of plant engineering activity.
  • Knowledge of computerised maintenance management systems.
