Job Purpose:


Reporting to the VP Legal, the Senior Legal Counsel will be supporting the development of key media, sponsorship and commercial projects across the business. In addition to supporting the VP Legal, this role will also work closely with other senior personnel within the business.


This is a newly created role which is highly commercial in nature and provides significant scope for career growth, personal development and genuine ownership of crucial growth areas of Formula E’s business.


Duties & Responsibilities:


The Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial & Media) will have responsibility in the following areas:


  • contractual process for sales and renewals in respect of Formula E’s media and sponsorship partners;
  • point of contact for media rights and sponsorship contractual queries;
  • key media projects including production services agreements, technical broadcast services agreements and digital media services agreements;
  • contractual process in respect of our merchandise and licensing partners;
  • E-Sports and gaming initiatives;
  • managing Formula E’s trademark portfolio with external counsel;
  • marketing, comms and digital services framework agreements and SOWs; and
  • ESG related initiatives (for example ‘Girls on Track’ and Change.Accelerated.Live programmes).


On the more complex matters, the role will be to support the VP Legal, however there will be plenty of opportunities to operate on an autonomous basis (with appropriate oversight) once settled into the role. Depending on experience, this role may also involve managing the commercial legal department trainee solicitor.


This is a fast-paced role which has extensive exposure to the commercial side of the business. Building effective relationships (internally and with other members of the Formula E ecosystem) and a willingness to broaden experience on impactful business change programmes will be key.


Required experience:


  • 2:1 higher education degree (law or law conversion);
  • 4+ PQE lawyer qualified in England;
  • private practice and commercial in-house experience;
  • experience drafting and negotiating sponsorship agreements, media rights agreements and a broad range of general commercial agreements.



Desirable experience:


  • experience within a sports rightsholder and/or sporting team environment;
  • experience drafting and negotiating agreements in respect of media production services and technical services;
  • engaging external counsel and managing budgets;
  • managing junior staff; and
  • experience managing IP trademark portfolios.
