Senior Finance Manager, Technical Accounting

Location: Oxford (Hybrid Working)

About you

This role would be a great first step out of practice for individuals working in public accounting firm (BIG4) who are looking for their first role out in industry, and have an interest/client base in life sciences. Someone who is confident to work both independently and with the team to build and establish a future-proof, first-class finance function. This role gives ample opportunities for professional growth, including possible future expansion of responsibilities


The role

Reporting to the VP of Finance you will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for the UK financials, month end internal reporting, together with external quarterly and annual reporting.

You will also be fundamental in designing and implementing the financial processes/ systems to support the business, working with the broader finance team, including the CFO, on projects including the implementation of SOX 404a.


Key tasks of the role:

  • Responsible for the preparation of the Group consolidation and cash flow under US GAAP on a monthly/quarterly basis as needed
  • Overall responsibility for Group tax compliance, accounting and disclosures in conjunction with the local financial controllers and supported by our external tax advisors
  • Lead the Group’s external audit process
  • Working closely with the VP of Finance and the CFO on both Company and finance team initiatives, including intercompany processes, transfer pricing and other ad-hoc projects as the Company develops and evolves
  • Responsible for assessing technical accounting matters and producing accounting memos where appropriate, supported by the Financial Reporting Manager
  • Responsible for the preparation of the financial statements for the purpose of the quarterly and annual filings with the SEC, supported by the Financial Reporting Manager in USA
  • Maintenance of share-based payments grants/exercises in Shareworks, and appropriate accounting thereof (including modifications)
  • Perform review and analytical activities as part of the monthly close


Experience and Education required

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant CPA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent
  • Over five years’ experience working in finance from Big 4 OR Biotech/Pharma Industry
  • Sound working knowledge of technical accounting, including prior experience of financial close activities
  • Knowledge and experience of IFRS, UK and US GAAP
  • US SEC Filings Experience
  • Knowledge of tax accounting and compliance matters
  • You will have good excel capabilities and competent with ERP system reporting processes
