Employment Lawyer PSL

London, UK, United Kingdom Hays Full time

We believe that the role of Employment PSL at Ius Laboris is a terrific opportunity for someone who likes the buzz of cross-cultural working, the challenge of producing genuine thought leadership content in collaboration with experts and the opportunity to make a difference in a small team with an entrepreneurial outlook.

This pack has been compiled to give you key information about the organisation and the role for which you are applying.

Purpose

The Content Team, in which you would work, creates legal and business content on employment law developments and writes research pieces on the future of work with the help of lawyers from across the Alliance.

The role of Employment PSL is both unique and exciting, suitable for someone with the skills of a PSL in terms of legal background and the ability to research, write and organise, but within the context of our uniquely broad, international Alliance. There will be intermittent travel opportunities that go with the job, as we hold conferences and expert workshops and meet between ourselves and with our law firms regularly.

Key responsibilities and challenges

We are looking for a PSL to work with our legal experts from around the world and to be involved in copywriting, editing, researching, writing, publishing and updating materials and furthering our content and expertise-sharing aims more generally. You will have the ability to write clear, well-argued and insightful text in a readable journalistic style and to provide text on time to meet publishing deadlines. You will need strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. You will also benefit from creating a network of contacts across our 56 countries and will both organise and take part in meet ups in different parts of the world.

You will be responsible for coordinating our 10 international Expert Groups, consisting of lawyers from around the world. This will involve discussing and sometimes initiating content projects with them and organising their activities. You will potentially have a key role to play in the new digital platform that we are currently developing, suggesting ideas and working on the logistics for it. This may involve work on our various international news updates for clients. Similarly, you will be involved in our thought leadership projects, particularly with our international Policy Group, which writes key in-depth reports and interfaces with supranational organisations.

We work on various IT platforms and you will need to have sufficient IT skills to use our publication platforms and produce content and create online tools in the form of graphics, legal toolkits, decision trees etc.

Some travel is required for the role. You may be required to attend our annual Congress, held in a different location each year, along with events we organise to train junior lawyers, BD events and events set up for our Expert Groups. However, note that travel varies and is subject to sustainability requirements.

The Content Team

The Content Team has two permanent members based in Paris, with the others in Brussels. We are all used to working remotely and ensure to have regular live meetings for optimal functioning. The Content Team itself is a small unit, but we interface every day with lawyers right across our alliance for the production of content and for input into other activities, in particular with members of our ten international Expert Groups and our Knowledge Managers’ Group.

The Content Team has overall responsibility for all legal and economic content put out on our website and extranet in all its forms, including our Global HR Law Guide (a significant database covering 50+ jurisdictions), in-depth reports based on international surveys of our firms and their clients, daily articles, podcasts, webinars, maps, videos etc. It is also responsible for the activities of our International Policy Group, which interfaces with supranational organisations such as the OECD and the International Labour Organisation in relation to employment policy. The Content Team’s remit further includes driving and coordinating our ESG efforts, both internally and as a service to our clients, via our Responsible Business Group. The Content Team also runs our ‘University’ programme for junior lawyers worldwide, holding live University training courses in Europe and the Americas every year, along with occasional courses in the APAC region. With the Expert Groups, we are also running training sessions for senior lawyers on topics such as how to develop the business of their firms into new areas. You would potentially be able to get involved in all of these projects to a greater or lesser extent.

We have a number of ambitious projects on the go in the Central Team as a whole, and members of the Content Team are heavily involved. One is the building of a leading-edge digital platform to house legal updates, horizon-scanning features and implementation advice for clients. We are also exploring holding a content-rich client event, along with some new avenues of business – all of which you could be involved in. The Central Team has been operating since the founding of the alliance in 2001, but retains its original entrepreneurial feel. If you are interested in developing legal business but don’t want to be caught up in red tape, the Central Team is a good place to be. Each member of the team has the opportunity to be creative and make a genuine difference.

Key contacts

Frequent communication with a wide range of people across cultures is an important aspect of the role. Creating a network of people you can rely on to help you with the production of content is often key to success. The language of the alliance is English, but an understanding of other languages can sometimes be useful in this. Everyone in the lliance is helpful and most people find working within our ecosystem enjoyable. You will work with our Head of Content & Learning, the Head of BD and Marketing, the Executive Director, our IT Manager, and all colleagues within the Central Team. Beyond that you will need to work closely with key partners and associates in our member firms and sometimes also with external suppliers.
