BEGIN YOUR CAREER WITH A FOCUS ON TOMORROW

What you will do:

  • As an Apprentice Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Engineer (HVAC) with Johnson Controls, you'll embark on a career that combines practical on-the-job experience with structured education to achieve a level 3 apprenticeship. Here's what you can expect in this role:
  • On-the-Job Work Experience: You'll spend significant time at our client sites, where you'll be tasked with installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC equipment. This hands-on experience will provide you with valuable insights into the diverse applications of HVAC systems across various environments, including sports stadiums, data centres, office buildings, and more.
  • Collaboration with Qualified Engineers: Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll work closely with qualified Johnson Controls Engineers who will serve as mentors, guiding you in developing your HVAC skills. This collaborative environment ensures that you receive the support and guidance needed to succeed in your role.
  • This is a mobile role operating primarily in London, Heathrow and Gatwick. You will be provided a company van to assist with travel to our client sites where you will support and learn from our senior engineers.
  • F Gas Certification: All apprentices must achieve a "Level 2 Certificate in F Gas and ODS Regulations Category 1" as mandated by the EU F Gas Regulation 517/2014. This certification is essential for working on equipment containing fluorinated refrigerants, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and safety standards.
  • Focus on Energy Efficiency: You may have the responsibility of optimising the energy efficiency of the buildings you work in. This could involve analysing HVAC systems, identifying areas for improvement, and making recommendations to building owners to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Customer-Facing Element: This role combines manual work with a customer-facing element, where you'll interact with clients to understand their specific needs and deliver top-notch service.
  • Effective communication and professionalism are key as you represent Johnson Controls in customer interactions.
  • Opportunities for Growth: Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll have the opportunity to grow and apply the skills and knowledge gained in college in a real workplace setting. This experiential learning approach ensures that you develop both technical competencies and practical skills essential for success in the HVAC field.

What we offer:

  • Competitive annual wage.
  • Earn extra with Overtime & Travel time pay.
  • Enjoy 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Structured training plan and ongoing support throughout.
  • Company Vehicle, uniform, all personal protection equipment, and ongoing training.

Training and Qualifications:

  • College Attendance: You'll attend college on day release with the continued support of our training team. This structured education component will complement your on-the-job training, providing you with comprehensive knowledge and skills in refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump engineering
  • Travel and Accommodation: If you're required to stay away from home for college or work-related purposes, the company will cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals. This ensures that you can focus on your education and training without financial burden
  • Driving Licence Requirement: Given the nature of the role and the need to travel to various client sites, you'll need to hold a full UK driving licence. This allows you to fulfill your responsibilities effectively and ensures that you can access different locations as required

Career Progression:

  • Upon completion, several internal opportunities within the company will be available to you. All of our apprentices immediately move into full time permanent engineering positions.
  • Previous apprentices have become lead engineers, managing their own teams and projects.

Qualifications Required:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English (Grade 5)
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths (Grade 5)
  • Full Driving License is essential.
  • Ability to pass advanced DBS check.

  • IT & communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and willingness to improve.
  • Availability to travel regularly as this is a field-based role.
  • Comfortable working at heights.

  • Suitable candidates will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position and provide necessary documentation. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre in May, assessment centres typically include a combination of activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, and presentations.
