This is a wide-ranging role, implementing the functions of the DevOPS blueprint as described by the DevOps Architect.

The qualified candidate will establish a sustainable DevOps framework and methodology, providing a fully supported and scalable test enviroment which support CI/CD.

The PACS business is highly visible and one of our most significant portfolios within HID Global. The PACS products include smart cards, mobile access and identifications, software, services and controllers for physical access control.

1. Faster Time to Market

Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Automating the testing and deployment processes reduces the time required to release new features and updates.

Reduced Time for Feedback: Quick feedback loops enable rapid identification and resolution of issues.

2. Improved Quality and Reliability

Automated Testing: Ensures consistent and thorough testing, reducing the risk of human error.

Continuous Monitoring: Proactive monitoring and alerting help in early detection of potential issues.

3. Scalability and Flexibility

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Automating infrastructure management allows for scaling and flexibility in resource allocation.

4. Enhanced Collaboration and Efficiency

Unified Teams: DevOps promotes a culture of collaboration between development and operations teams, leading to better communication and fewer bottlenecks.

Shared Responsibilities: Cross-functional teams share responsibilities for development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

As our DevOps Staff Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by:

• Able to design and implement a wide range of DevOps techniques to support a scalable and automated CI/CD environment.

• Monitor, triage and resolve CI/CD pipeline failures.

• Design, build and documentation of new CI/CD infrastructure for new features.

• Able to identify and liaise with stakeholders to cover CI/CD gaps

• Able to communicate DevOps best practice to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Able to project manage and use technical leadership to achieve a team result

• Contributes to project and product planning discussions

• Understands the product Release process

• Plans and scopes DevOps requirements in collaboration with the DevOps Architect

• Able to make decisions regarding the DevOps Environment

• Coaches / mentors others at a technical level

• Able to research, plan and train others within the team

• Able to deliver technical reports

• Champions TDD methodology and leads stakeholders in its implementation

• The Staff Engineer self-seeks evidence to support their ideas and builds cases for these ideas.

• They have end-to-end responsibility for projects of increasing complexity that encompasses more than their own development.

• This engineer is known and seen as a technical leader by their peers and works effectively with non-technical members.

• Usually works with limited supervision, conferring with the wider team and Supervision as required.

• Has latitude for un-reviewed action or decision making.

Your Experience and Education include:

• Engineering degree or equivalent or suitable experience.

• Minimum of +7 years of related industry experience.

• Familiarity with infrastructure management and monitoring tools.

• Awareness of developer operations platform tooling such as Jenkins, Gradle, Snyk, SonarQube, DefectDojo, Ansible, Yocto, Yocto Cooker, Ant, Maven, NPM, Nexus, Docker, Terraform, AWS DevOps Services (As examples)

• Familiarity with documentation standards and practices with a developer operations focus.

• Good presenting and communication skills, good judgment, analytical ability.

• Experience in building and maintaining good working relationships with both external and internal parties

• Strong IT skills and knowledge including hardware, software, and networking.

• Ability to work on complex tasks without technical guidance.

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and practices

• Should have knowledge of various test/development methodologies such as TDD, BDD, Acceptance Testing and Unit Testing.
