Job Title: Mechanical Estimator
Location: Surrey Office (Full-time, on-site)
Salary: Up to £65,000 (depending on experience)
Company Overview: Our client is a reputable Mechanical Building Services company specializing in commercial fit-outs, with a particular focus on Cat A and Cat B projects. With a portfolio that includes projects ranging from small works to larger, high-value contracts up to £6 million, this company offers a robust pipeline of exciting projects. The day-to-day project values typically range between £600,000 and £2.5 million.
Role Summary: The Mechanical Estimator will play a key role within the estimating team, working closely with project managers, engineers, and the commercial team to deliver competitive and accurate cost estimates for mechanical building services projects. This role requires a strong understanding of the commercial office fit-out sector, particularly in Cat A and Cat B projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Prepare detailed estimates for mechanical services, including HVAC, plumbing, and ventilation systems, with an emphasis on commercial fit-out projects.
- Project Analysis: Review project specifications, drawings, and other documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Cost Management: Develop cost estimates and budgets, considering material, labor, and overheads, and monitor project costs to ensure alignment with financial targets.
- Client and Vendor Communication: Collaborate with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and maintain strong relationships.
- Tender Submissions: Prepare and submit tender documentation, ensuring accurate cost breakdowns for the estimating team’s review.
- Market Research: Stay up to date with industry standards, costs, and trends to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with design, procurement, and project management teams to ensure cohesive and cost-effective project planning and delivery.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, ideally within commercial building services and office fit-out projects.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficient understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing, and ventilation for commercial environments.
- Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail in costing, budgeting, and project specifications.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, vendors, and team members.
- Software Proficiency: Competent with industry-standard estimating tools and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Project Scope Knowledge: Experience with Cat A and Cat B fit-out standards is highly desirable.
