About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer with expertise in configuration management and automation tools, specifically Puppet and Ansible. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the migration of our existing infrastructure automation from Puppet to Ansible. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both tools and a deep understanding of best practices in infrastructure as code (IaC).

Key Responsibilities:


Migration Planning: Develop a comprehensive migration plan to transition from Puppet to Ansible, including timelines, resource requirements, and risk mitigation strategies.


Script Conversion: Analyse existing Puppet manifests and modules and convert them into Ansible playbooks and roles.


Testing and Validation: Implement rigorous testing procedures to ensure that the converted Ansible playbooks perform as expected and maintain the desired state of the infrastructure.


Documentation: Create detailed documentation for the migration process, including conversion guidelines, testing procedures, and troubleshooting steps.


Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, developers, and QA engineers, to ensure a smooth migration process.


Training: Provide training and support to team members on Ansible best practices and usage.


Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for automation and improvement in the current infrastructure management processes.

Qualifications:


Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in DevOps or a related field, with hands-on experience in both Puppet and Ansible.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in writing and managing Puppet manifests and modules
  • Strong experience with Ansible playbooks, roles and modules
  • Familiarity with version control system such as Git
  • Experience with CICD tools such as Jenkins or Gitlab CI.
  • Knowledge on cloud platform and their adaption capabilities

The successful candidate should have:

  1. Experience working in a similar infrastructure software engineering role with both Puppet and Ansible experience
  2. Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  3. An SRE mind-set to identify and engineer solutions to continuously improve the product.
  4. Ability to write yaml, ruby, PowerShell, python or similar code.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Operating system knowledge (Linux and / or Windows).
  7. Experience of working within an agile pod following the Scrum framework or similar and associated tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  8. Experience on API development and DevOps tools, orchestration and configuration management such as Ansible and Puppet.
  9. An understanding of the current cyber security landscape and associated controls, specifically those relevant to the Financial Services sector (desirable).
  10. Experience of mentoring and coaching colleagues, helping to advance capability through collaboration.
  11. A proven track record of driving change within an Enterprise organisation.
  12. The ability to engage colleagues and stakeholders at all levels in order to solicit feedback through clear communication and active listening
