Quantity Surveyor, Birmingham / Midlands

Due to expansion in the region, we are looking for a Quantity Surveyor based in Birmingham with

1. 2-5 years quantity surveying experience.

2. a related qualification / or currently working towards completion of same, who is

3. currently in the building / construction / fit-out sector executing the full

spectrum of quantity surveying & commercial management duties, and is someone who is

4. highly motivated and commercially astute, but firstly,

5. proactive & adaptable to allow the flexing of priorities to suit the changing demands

of workload directed by management.

Roles and responsibilities

The list below applies to duties performed in the commercial management of both main and sub-contract.

  • Quantification and measurement of works using available design information.
  • Cost planning, estimating, budgeting & pricing of construction & fitout projects.
  • Tendering, procurement & buyout in accordance with the approved management system.
  • Writing sub-contracts and orders for building trade elements.
  • Preparation and pricing of variations / change management.
  • Involvement with value engineering exercises / cost comparisons to drive down costs.
  • Contract administration under the JCT suite of contracts.
  • Overall, rigorous updating / maintenance of contemporary + accurate records, to support management and facilitate strategic decisions.
  • Digitally savvy, conversant with MS office software applications (desired but not essential & training will be available to upskill: use of measurement software such as Bluebeam / CostX / any other take-off software, and using systems such a Procore.
  • Working within a multi-cultural and blended team of construction professionals and builds relationships with internal and external customers.

Qualifications

The person we are looking for comes equipped with the following.

Either,

a BSc Honours Degree in Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying (or on track to achieve same / currently studying) at a university / institution undergraduate degree course accredited by the RICS, or

A recognised construction qualification / HND / BTEC / credible other.
