Job Role: Validation Engineer

6 Months Contract || Peterborough

  • Collate system & component validation plans (DVP – Design Verification Plan) based on risk identified within DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis)
  • Deliver assigned projects end to end:
  • Specify test requirements and define engine build & instrumentation requirements through collaboration with relevant engineering teams.
  • Testing will vary, but examples are:
  • Engine dyno testing: engine endurance, functional testing, cold ambient, gradeability, noise & vibration
  • Machine testing: overseeing validation test work on internal machines
  • Work closely with test engineers responsible for executing the test; drive decision making from engine data reviews and end of test inspections.
  • Analyze data as appropriate based on the test work being delivered
  • Ensure that activities are planned and delivered within agreed timelines.
  • Upon test completion - document conclusions and recommendations, complete reports and update DFMEA with learning/results from test work.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering / STEM degree qualified
  • Demonstrated experience of working as part of a cross functional team to define test requirements
  • Demonstrated experience of engine or machine development (or similar)
  • Ability to troubleshoot build and test issues, and work with component owners and engine test engineers to complete validation test sign-off
  • Ability to analyse engine data and use it to drive business decisions with clear, concise conclusions.
  • A structured approach to problem solving
  • Good communication skills (both written & verbal)


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of industrial diesel engine applications, construction machinery or generating sets
  • Experience of Proactive Reliability, and demonstration of Product Quality
  • Experience of DFMEA facilitation, creation and validation planning
  • Proven project management experience related to Diesel Engine development
  • 6 Sigma Methodology and Continuous Process Improvement
