Senior Finance Analyst - Digital & Technology

The location of the role is Paddington, London (hybrid working).

The duration of the contract is 6 months.

The pay rate on offer is £500 - £600 per day.

The client is a multinational high-street retailer.


Role Summary

This role is the Finance lead for Zero Based Budgeting (ZBB) project covering the entire Digital & Technology cost base. The role will partner a Technology cost SME to complete analysis of the cost base including benchmarking, driver analysis, total cost of ownership (TCO) and develop an optimisation plan to deliver significant structural cost reduction.


Key accountabilities of the role

  • Support Technology cost SME to complete a review of the entire Digital & Technology (D&T) cost base.
  • Benchmark cost by tower and identify areas of opportunity.
  • Complete total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis at application and component level.
  • Map out cost drivers and develop cost driver model to be used for future budgeting and planning.
  • Support the development of an optimisation plan, which closes gap to benchmark to deliver significant, sustainable cost reduction.
  • Review cost allocation basis for recharges to Clothing & Home and Food, making recommendations to improve this linked to consumption & cost drivers, enabling these businesses to make choices.
  • Develop strong understanding of the total cost base and convert this analysis into a clear narrative that is consumable by D&T, Finance and wider business stakeholders. This will include sizing the optimisation opportunities and outlining a delivery plan with optimal sequencing to realise these.
  • Collaborate with workstream leads across the D&T transformation programme (Evolution) to sequence optimisation plan in line with workstream plans (particularly target technology landscape development, supplier reset & structure/ op model), ensuring no duplication of benefits.
  • Work with the Technology Landscape Evolution workstream to size the landscape modernisation & simplification benefits using the TCO analysis by application & component.
  • Support Digital & Technology Finance with the development of the Evolution business case, incorporating the cost optimisation plan.
  • Identify key initiatives within areas of improvement to underpin target cost model.
  • Work with stakeholders across Digital & Technology to understand the key initiatives and incorporate into the 3YP.
  • Support development of a delivery plan to implement the areas of opportunity.
  • Support development & implementation of a governance model to drive benefit realisation, controlling future changes to the D&T cost base with clear guardrails and criteria for
  • Develop insightful analysis to track progress against the cost optimisation plans, working closely with the programme leads to provide transparency over progress including risks & opportunities.
  • Bring a commercial mindset to identify areas of potential cost saving opportunity using oversight across Digital & Technology to join the dots across areas and expose areas of opportunity.


Key skills and experience

  • Qualified accountant with c. 3-5 years PQE experience in a commercial environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret large sets of data, to draw conclusions and construct a story to non-finance stakeholders
  • Strong commercial acumen to add challenge and insight to the business – Technology finance experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills to enable business partnering of senior non-financial colleagues
  • Confident communicator and inquisitive thinker
  • Proactive self-starter with collaborative approach and a natural style that builds strong network with colleagues
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo, and a drive for continuous improvement
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, good PowerPoint skills, data visualisation skills desirable (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau)
  • A great team member, but also happy to work independently on own initiative
