London, UK, United Kingdom Climate Policy Radar Full time

Product Data Scientist opportunity

About Climate Policy Radar

Climate Policy Radar is on a mission to organise, analyse, and democratise the world’s climate law and policy data. We build open databases and research tools so people can discover, understand, and generate data-driven insights on public laws and policies. Our work helps governments, researchers, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector to understand and advance effective climate policies and deploy climate finance.

Harnessing data science and AI and pioneering the application of natural language processing to this domain, our work unlocks previously inaccessible, unstructured data.

We are deeply embedded in the global climate and AI communities, and count some of the most important organisations and global climate leaders amongst our users, advocates, friends and advisors.

We are seeking a Product Data Scientist to mine our vast policy & legislation data set to generate insights & product development directions. You’ll work with a talent team of data scientists who are pushing the boundaries of NLP in the Climate space.

What you’ll be doing

Our policy and data science teams curate and generate large and complex datasets which are rich with potential insight and value to our users (such as our recent policy targets dataset). We are also highly data-driven in our product analytics and embed data-driven decision making into all aspects of our product strategy.

As a Product Data Scientist you will mine these data to generate insights and product development directions, making it easier for our users to empirically support climate-aligned decision making. You will work with our wonderfully collaborative data science, policy, and engineering teams cross-functionally and with a high degree of independence and autonomy.

You’ll be working with diverse datasets, both structured and unstructured, to unearth valuable insights.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to pioneer innovative techniques and methodologies that enhance our suite of internal and external tools, leveraging these insights to drive forward our mission. Your analytical skills will be crucial in measuring and improving data quality, with a keen focus on bias and equity. You'll analyse user behaviour and search analytics to pinpoint improvement opportunities, directly influencing product development outcomes. Collaboration is key; you'll work alongside policy experts, data scientists, engineers, and product teams to shape and execute a data-informed product strategy. Your role will be pivotal in defining and operationalizing metrics that gauge data and product quality, ensuring transparency and equity are at the forefront of your approach.

Embrace a culture of quality, rigor, and empirical evidence to make a tangible impact in our organization.

What experience you’ll need to apply:

  • Solid Python skills with exposure to libraries such as NumPy, PANDAS, spaCy, HuggingFace.
  • Exposure to SQL
  • Experience working in start-up/scale up businesses or small teams.
  • Data visualization experience with either Tableau, Looker or Power BI
  • A/B testing experience
  • Experience with digital analytics tools a bonus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ambition to work for a values based business

What’s in it for you?

  • Salary ranging from £50K-£65K, depending on experience.
  • Deep commitment to employee wellbeing.
  • A 4-day workweek (same pay, Fridays off).
  • Unlimited holiday.
  • Wellbeing allowance.
  • A vibrant, collaborative, empathetic work culture.
  • A hybrid work environment (2 days a week) in London’s leading climate tech hub.
