The company is seeking a Quantitative Analyst/Strategist to develop and implement algorithmic trading strategies and contribute to the build-out of the power trading desk.


Description:

You would be joining their Analytics and Trading team at a crucial time as they build their automated power trading team to trade its asset-backed portfolio consisting of energy storage and flexible generation assets.


It is a pivotal role which bridges the gap between energy trading / market data and model development. You will ensure there is a constant market perspective in the design, development and implementation of trading strategies, models, algorithms and infrastructure. You will bring innovative, out-of-the-box thinking to the team, proactively seeking and capturing additional value via hedging, exploring portfolio synergies and longer-term trading.


The successful candidate will leverage their deep expertise in energy markets and quantitative trading to optimise trading activities and drive strategic decision-making within the organisation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance and insights to the Analytics Team on energy trading strategies, market dynamics, and risk management principles.
  • Be a leading voice and contributor to the company’s drive towards an algorithmic power trading desk including infrastructure, data pipelines, strategies and risk management.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to develop and refine quantitative models and trading algorithms tailored to flexible generation and storage assets.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of energy market trends, supply & demand dynamics, regulatory developments, and competitor strategies to inform trading decisions.
  • Monitor market conditions in real-time and identify opportunities for arbitrage, hedging, and portfolio optimisation.
  • Develop and maintain robust backtesting frameworks to evaluate the performance of trading strategies and algorithms under various market scenarios.
  • Implement sophisticated risk management techniques to mitigate market, operational, and financial risks associated with trading activities.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MFE, PhD) preferred.
  • Proven track record of at least 5 years in energy trading, quantitative trading, or a related field, preferably within the energy sector.
  • Deep understanding of energy markets, including power, natural gas, renewable energy certificates (RECs), and carbon markets.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis, statistical modelling, and programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Experience with time-series analysis, machine-learning techniques, and algorithmic trading strategies.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to synthesise complex data sets and draw actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts and influence decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
  • Results-driven with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement in energy trading practices.
