The Opportunity

As Assistant Estimator you will work within the Pre-Development Team and report directly to the Pre-Construction Director. Working closely with the Pre-Development Estimator, you will undertake estimating duties on projects which are being brought forward by Strata as proposed developments. These will vary in nature, size and complexity and with the support of the Pre-Development Estimator you will be required to provide and assist with the build cost estimate to enable the wider Pre-Development Team to formulate an acquisition and development strategy.


You’ll work closely internally with our commercial, design and engineering teams and externally with subcontractors to ensure we have the most efficient and cost-effective proposed solutions for each site to be able to apply cost assumptions, and develop estimates which will ultimately inform the financial offer for the site.

Responsibilities of the role


  • Preparing full detailed take-offs and pricing at the Pre-Development appraisal stage.
  • Reviewing design and tender documentation, contract conditions, other job-specific factors, and production of risk analyses, in order to inform the ‘decision to tender’.
  • Take part in cost adjudication project team meetings and contribute towards tender strategy decisions.
  • Seeking competitive quotations for packages of work and/or materials in order to prepare competitive tenders.
  • Using own knowledge, supplemented with available data on current prices, produce accurate estimates in order to prepare competitive estimates of development costs.
  • Effectively managing time and resources to ensure that estimates are completed in accordance with procedural timescales.
  • Keep up to date with the latest prices.
  • Drawing up accurate estimates for elements of schemes by studying architectural drawings, schedules and specifications.
  • Managing own workload to ensure accurate quotes are produced to strict deadlines using in-house computer software.
  • Liaising directly with external and internal stakeholders to ascertain project requirements.
  • Strive to reduce the time in returning the quotation/tender.
  • Maintain and regularly update House type Standard Build Cost and development cost budgets.
  • Prepare and maintain effective working relationships with subcontractors, internal Technical, Commercial and Construction teams and external Project teams.
