We are an international publisher of dental books and journals and are looking to appoint a full-time in-house Desk Editor. The main duties of the role are formatting, editing, and proofreading scientific and technical dental/medical manuscripts to our house style, for both books and journals.
This is an ideal role for an ambitious candidate looking to take on more responsibility.
The successful applicant will oversee a variety of projects from manuscript submission through to publication. You should have excellent organisational skills, the proven ability to work to tight deadlines, and the capacity to build and maintain good relationships with members of the publishing team in the London and the Berlin offices, as well as with authors and editors.

Responsibilities
· Revision of schedules, manuscript guidelines, table of contents, etc.
· Editorial examination/review of received manuscripts with regard to formal and content requirements; editing/proofreading of the manuscripts (this applies to other book titles only).
· Coordination with the in-house prepress department regarding image data verification.
· Coordination with the in-house production department regarding typesetting/layout (this applies for other book titles only).
· Coordination with external graphic designers regarding illustrations.
· Preparation of and participation in Zoom meetings.
· Administration of access rights for all project participants on the file sharing platform.
Skills and experience:
· Education up to degree level or equivalent experience (a science degree would be useful as you will be working with scientific and technical dental/medical content).
· Excellent command of written and spoken English, grammar and punctuation are essential.
· 2 to 3 years’ experience of copy-editing with an STM/academic publisher would be advantageous.
· Experience in a (specialist) house or media company is desirable.
· Excellent record-keeping ability.
· A demonstrable understanding of book and journal publishing processes.
· Highly developed internet skills, including the ability to easily negotiate online platforms such as publishing systems, FileZilla and Dropbox.
· Strong numeracy and computer skills, including an excellent command of Word and Adobe Pro suites.
· Excellent organisation skills and the ability to set priorities under pressure.
· Ability to prioritise work and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Ability to work comfortably and efficiently as part of a team.
