Job Description

As a Senior PV Designer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of solar energy. You will use your expertise to design and develop high-performance PV systems that ensure optimal energy production and client satisfaction. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, collaborate with a dedicated team, and make a meaningful impact in promoting sustainable energy solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive PV system designs, including system layouts, electrical single-line diagrams, and detailed equipment specifications, with a strong understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and their integration into PV projects.
  • Conduct thorough technical feasibility assessments for potential PV installations.
  • Utilize industry-leading PV design software (e.g., PVSOL, PVSyst) to create efficient and cost-effective system designs.
  • Perform in-depth energy production analyses using PVSOL to optimize system performance and maximize project returns.
  • Ensure designs comply with all relevant UK regulations, codes, and safety standards for PV installations, including Building Regulations, IET Code of Practice for Grid-connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems, IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, and IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and Business Development teams to provide technical support, prepare proposals, and assist with client consultations by explaining technical details from PVSOL reports.
  • Utilize your knowledge of BESS sizing, shading analysis, and system optimization to create the best solutions for clients.
  • Oversee and mentor junior PV designers, ensuring the quality and accuracy of their work.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including reports, proposals, and construction drawings.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in PV technology, design best practices, industry trends, and the latest technologies for PV modules, inverters, and storage devices.
  • Present technical information to internal and external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in photovoltaic system design and engineering.
  • Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering high-performance PV systems.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard PV design software (e.g., PVSOL, AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, particularly in DC systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK regulations, codes, and safety standards for PV installations, including IET Code of Practices.
  • Good understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and their role in PV projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Fast learner with a desire to stay current with advancements in PV technology.
